It's ok! I didn't have the characters (or presence of mind) to add a "/jk" tone marker there ๐Ÿ˜…

Especially considering the ways even deep caves can be affected by climate change (flooding, earth quakes...) I think pro-nuclear folks cannot be part of a environmentalist, "green" movement for the future. Locally, nuclear waste will be much worse than climate change.

calling me a rat is a bit... much, no?

There are lots of physics folks who just see nuclear power as a job creating force for them.

However, due the general non-existence of any meaningful long-term storage, even if we reduce haltime to a few hundred years, pro-nuclear just ignores the future debt

But I agree that degrowth should mostly target the rich and powerful, to take their power, while the currently less fortunate should receive the ability and support to live well, be it globally, or economically.

Still, thanks for your perspective! I'll have to think about it some more now

23.02.2026 20:02 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

The way I heard it, degrowth was arguing that infinite economic growth and profits are impossible, so we should refocus on providing for our people rather than shareholders - also considering that food production is, nominally, already enough for us and a few billion more.

Hmm, the physicist in me shudders at the thought of that. Especially considering wind and solar are already offering so much power for the grid...

But that's a different topic. Thanks for your insights!

Are you saying newer leftists are generally pro-nuclear? That'd be a bit surprising.

Oh, I think the "eugenics at the heart of dehrowth" bit told me what I need: degrowth here refers to the population, not the economy, right?
Or am I missing something?

23.02.2026 19:43 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I remember a time when degrowth was a decently sized stream of leftism.
Was there anything major that changed the trajectory? I'm honestly asking because that change passed me by and I'm a bit confused.

I'd appreciate any info you can give me! ๐Ÿ™

(I ask because I remember you creatively collaborating or at least publicly appearing with some left-leaning canadian politicians a few years back)

How do you approach international leftist organising with political parties of other countries, considering the US is being exceedingly ostracised by former and current allies?
Or did it not affect your connections? Does vocally opposing the trump regime help keep good will?

Southern California air board rejected pollution rules after AI-generated flood of comments SoCalโ€™s pollution authority scrapped a plan to phase out gas-powered appliances after receiving more than 20,000 emails sent by an AI-powered platform called CiviClick.

โ€œFor years, companies have employed bots or orchestrated fake โ€˜AstroTurfโ€™ campaigns to create the appearance of grassroots opinion on an issue, but the introduction of AI technology could make it even harder for elected officials to engage in earnest with the public.โ€

a british furry named derrick is complaining about people criticising cultural appropriation and indigenous erasure, grand standing like an authority on leftism. What else is new?

I've met plenty mainland furries with the same exact character, just a different locale.

aside from being a right-wing ideological project, substackโ€™s entire goal is to trap writers and readers in their platform. it sucks to use, it sucks be a reader of. a worse user interface, worse fee breakdown for writers, and directly supporting nazi blogs. ditch it.

this is why the whole โ€œoh, suffering creates great artโ€ thing is bullshit

you know whatโ€™s conducive to art? a roof over your head and food on the table

you know what isnโ€™t? stressing out over where the fuck the rent money is going to come from

And yet, every day, our most prominent Democratic politicians, scholars, public intellectuals, universities & university leaders, & other civil society organizations continue to use his platform as their primary social media outlet. One cannot help but notice this & draw conclusions.

The fact that these sentences always end with "... which we will cram with more work for them" and not "... so we moved to a four-day workweek" really illustrate the hollowness of some AI evangelists' promises that AI will deliver us to some kind of post-work utopia.

That sounds so cool, and it does fit what I saw of all the previews!
I'm really looking forward to the release ๐Ÿฅฐ

Yeah, that sounds fair. If you ever do a platforming gauntlet section, a per-platform reset could be worth it??
Otherwise fixed respawns sound fitting!

Someone has sure already made this observation but the fact they can convert all those empty warehouses into prison camps means they could have converted them into housing, community centers, job training centers or, hell, libraries or schools all along. Itโ€™s always a matter of will not resources.

It's made with AI generated content, so there is no guarantee any of it is even remotely true, let alone fact-checked.
Just a warning.
