like the tldr on this for me personally is that I find this tech interesting and useful BUT mainly in the wrong hands/in the hands of few powerful people right now effectively, I think it's impossible to completely ban it and that the best way would be to democratize it and regulate it properly

I don't think there is any realistic way or will for the general population to ban this tech but there is a strong will for more privacy, more freedom and in general owning and controlling this tech and making sure it is only trained on ethical, legally obtained data

but lmk what you think ofc

imo due to how much especially the far right is abusing this tech rn there should be a push to regulate AND to shift to open models like the Chinese ones or the OpenAI OSS ones rather than close subscription ones: if we are going to have this thing it has to be in the hands of the people

I also do think that in some narrow circumstances they can actually be useful if run in a safe way and trained on actual good data (and no running them on god knows what god knows where is not the ideal), like idk having them sifting through tons of data and then verifying manually is useful lol

While I do think LLMs are to communication what the maxim gun was to War, and in that sense I do prefer they would have never ever been invented, I do think it's unrealistic to think we are ever getting rid of them in any actual actionable fashion, simply because they can be SO decentralized

I want to put my thoughts out there in a transparent way, and I am not invested in any company in general so this is just idk a bit of rambling: I do not think that, even if the bubble pops, LLMs will be going anywhere, the cat is out of the bag and a lot of weights are public and easy to run
