Hopefully the whole Bari Weiss thing and Ezra Klein thing starts waking people up to the fact that corporate media is mostly populated with mediocre people who have made millions and gained unbelievable influence because they threaten nothing and tell wealthy people exactly what they want to hear.

This week, the Global Sumud Flotilla tried to deliver life-saving aid to Gaza.
Instead, 461 peopleβincluding New Yorkersβhave been detained by the Israeli military.
They must be freed at once. And the deliberate starvation of Palestinians must end now.

Jamal Khashoggi, the Washington Post, and the Cost of Speaking Out
As Saudi Arabia hosts comedians and courts gamers, the silenced voice of Jamal Khashoggi still echoes.
Washington Post dismantled the platform Jamal wrote on. Discarded the fellowship they created in his memory.
They fired me unjustly for speaking the truth.
But Iβll never stop talking about my friend, writer, and amazing human, Jamal Khashoggi.
RIP, Jamal.

Overnight, Trump and Republicans in Congress shut down the federal government.
They shut it down because theyβre determined to strip healthcare from millions of Americans, to enrich the billionaires they serve, to continue the assault on our rights.
We must fight back.

Last month the California state legislature passed a bill to put Prop 50 on the ballot this November, a proposal that would temporarily redraw our stateβs congressional districts to counterbalance the Republican led partisan gerrymandering that states like Texas, Florida and Missouri have implemented at the direction of Donald Trump to rig elections in their favor. Without Prop 50 allowing California to fight back, these changes would lock in an artificial far right majority to continue the assault on working people that weβve seen this past year, from illegal ICE raids in our communities, to the gutting of what little protections regular people have left to fill the pockets of the 1%, to cracking down on free speech and the right to organize.
We stand with organized labor in supporting Prop 50, because it is a necessary measure to prevent permanent fascist control of our government. We oppose gerrymandering, and at the same time recognize that California cannot unilaterally disarm and hand control of congress to a nonrepresentative right wing majority. If Prop 50 passes, it will have real, tangible impacts on the lives of immigrants, trans people, and the working class as a whole. Even so, it is not a long term solution to the problems we are facing. We are committed to continue the fight against fascism and for democratic socialism past November, including by supporting the California Fair Elections Act to lift the ban on public financing for California elections.

The right wants to lock us into a permanent fascist oligarchy, and corporate Democrats like Gavin Newsom hope that weβll be satisfied with short term tweaks around the edges that donβt fundamentally address the problems that got us here in the first place. We have a different vision. We will continue to show up for our communities to win the immediate fights, including the fight to pass Prop 50, while also pushing for a better world that represents our values; building working class power to achieve real democracy in our politics, our economy, and our daily lives. In love and solidarity from SoCo DSA. (Pictured: our mascot Rosa the chicken)

An essay on wank | deadSimpleTech
This captures well the uncomfortable, slightly disorienting feeling that wank creates when you're subjected to it, wherein you're expected to speak about and think about the statement as though it say...
Today's article is about a form of bad-faith speech somewhat akin to bullshit, which I'm calling (because why not) wank. I don't quite think I've focused the ideas down as much as I can, but I think it says some interesting things regardless:

We Who Believe in Democracy Must Fight to Make It Real
We wake daily to new spectacles of violence and humiliation: kidnappings in broad daylight, attacks on unions, LGBTQ people, women, and immigrants, the erosion of long-cherished rights. Itβs no longer...
"But thatβs why we must commit to a fuller vision of democracy: to reclaim power in the workplace and daily life, and set an economic agenda that will actually make...lives better. The most effective counterforce to resist authoritarianism is our class solidarity."
