The Minneapolis City Council unanimously adopted a resolution urging Governor Walz to enact an eviction moratorium as an effort to keep families together. Unfortunately, rent is due soon for so many families. 1/

“An ICE agent accidentally fired his department-issued firearm while inside an Eagan hotel room in December, sending a bullet into a neighboring room, according to a police report. The gunshot occurred Dec. 18, at the Hampton Inn Minneapolis-Eagan, located at 3000 Eagandale Place, as the agent attempted to change a part on the gun, the report said. The bullet traveled through the agent’s shirt and through a wall, then hit the headboard of the bed in the adjoining room. The guest in that room was walking down the hall toward the room at the time. Nobody was injured and the agent was not arrested or charged. The Department of Homeland Security did not respond to requests for comment.”

If someone ran for Governor of MN on an ‘abolish helicopter flight over the Twin Cities’ and ‘I will show my face on the streets when the federal government attacks our state’ I think they could garner enough support from the urban core to take this thing home.

I don’t think people quite understand that the occupation by ICE in the Twin Cities has more or less erased non-white people from public life. They cannot safely exist in any space accessible to the public and moving between private places leaves folks vulnerable to kidnapping by armed masked goons.

If you’re going to run for office in MN and aren’t going to call for Abolishing ICE, it’s going to get harder and harder for you. The kids who today are building snow walls to keep out ICE and drawing pictures of ICE defeating machines will soon be of voting age, and they’re not going to forget this
