The cool think about local journalism is that you can have a real impact on your community.

Two brick houses that are mirror images of one another.

Pop quiz: which one of these houses is a virtuous single-family home and which one is a despicable triplex ripping neighborhood integrity asunder?

What do we need to do to get Larrytown officially added to as a place in Google Maps?

Several LGC board mbrs played key roles in the 2024 cmpn to regulate election finance in A2, arguing that "dark money" and "special interests" had too much pwer.

The next year: LGC illegally plowed its (charitably donated) reserves into a losing effort to stop the AADL's library project. #a2council

The Library Green Elegy: Dark Money Group Fined For Ann Arbor Election Interference Ann Arbor voters passed a pair of special election ballot measures in August of 2025 that would hopefully put to rest: what should be done ...

6 months ago, voters in Ann Arbor decided turn the page on the Library Lot. Erich Z. shares an elegy for the Library Green Conservancy. The non-profit opposed the Props A and B and was found to have violated state campaign finance laws.

The 9th and 10th largest Quercus bicolor (swamp white oak) in Michigan are located on the 1000 block of Pearl Street in Ypsilanti. At 178 and 171 inches in circumference, respectively I like to imagine these two trees are siblings who have watched each other grow over the years.

My sense is that the older NIMBYs are still upset about how leaf collection changed. It's something you come across when you are reading the deep lore.

Screenshot of test reading.

β€œAnn Arbor has a very small
and vocal geocentric minority that has a blatant disdain for cars and commuters. There was a proposal to add a lane in each direction on US23 between M14 and 94 to ease the daily congestion but it was roundly rejected.
That part of US 23 is not even in the city limits but commenters said: "Let them ride the train." Seriously, what train? People commuting to cities north and south are supposed to abandon their cars and ride a non-existent train?
Hogwash!”

Am I reading this correctly? Is the accusation here that Ann Arborites who opposed expanding US23 have rejected heliocentrism?

This photo shows a winter street scene with snow on the ground. The main focus is on utility infrastructure - there are several tall utility poles with power lines running between them creating a web of cables across the cloudy gray sky. In the center, there's a distinctive H-frame utility structure made of tall wooden or concrete poles with a horizontal crossbeam.

The road appears to be clear and wet, with white lane markings visible. Orange and white construction cones line the side of the road. In the background, you can see commercial buildings and signage, including what appears to be "CALL TOPCO" on a yellow sign. There are also traffic signs visible, including "No Left Turn" signs.

The bare trees in the distance and the overall gray, overcast sky give the scene a typical winter atmosphere. The setting appears to be a commercial or industrial area along a main road, possibly during or after road construction work given the traffic cones.

This photo shows another view of a similar winter street scene. The image features tall utility poles with H-frame crossbeams supporting power lines against an overcast gray sky. The poles appear to be metal lattice or truss-style construction with horizontal crossbeams.

In the foreground, there's a clear road with white lane markings and a speed limit sign showing 40 mph. Snow covers the ground on both sides of the road, and orange construction cones are visible along the roadside. Several vehicles can be seen on the road and parked in the background.

The yellow "CALL TOPDOG" billboard is visible again in the background, along with a traffic light and various other street signs. Bare winter trees line the area, and commercial buildings are visible in the distance. The overall atmosphere is cold and wintry with the gray sky and snow-covered landscape.

This appears to be taken from a slightly different angle than the first photo, possibly a bit further down the same road or intersection.
