Late in development we discovered that in Aliens: Fireteam the players sidearm would be spawned at 0,0,0. Our levels had nothing at 0,0,0 visible by a stroke of luck. We added a pivotal room to the game at the start of a level. And guess where 0,0,0 was and by extension a floating sidearm?

It was the first video game I owned (Master System) and have vivid memories of it all.

I just remembered: I actually worked on Astroneer for a few weekends while I flew back and forth to Seattle with those mini Intel PC's that Gabe gave away like Oprah gave away cars. That's a fun little memory.

It was blunt, but it was the shot in the arm I needed. I _loved_ that he said that to me. I've since told him how much I appreciated that so its not news to him. I wouldn't have had that opportunity if it weren't for the quiet halls and hallways of dev-on-dev event.

I miss Steam Dev Days.

He and I had collaborated on the Mann-conomy Update for TF2 (this is the first time "hats" were sold, I was running community stuff at Polycount) and I had some mocked-up artwork for what would eventually become Astroneer.

Excitedly I showed it to him. "Show me again when you have an actual game."

It's been 10 years so I don't mind saying it now, but, Robin Walker said something to me at the 2nd of these conferences that lit a fire under my ass to make sure this silly idea i had for a game got made. That idea went on to be Astroneer.
