Starship Battling Planet by Kelly Freas - Starcon, 1975 poster

05.02.2026 01:33 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Sleek lines, retro styling, aggressive yet friendly bow, polite nacelles. Signed hullplate. The aquashuttle is an underrated beauty.

a conversation between the crew of the Enterprise D. Picard: Good god, didn't anyone here watch TOS as a boy? Worf: I watchted Battlestar Galactica Date: I especially liked the Cylons Chief O'Brian: I was in TOS, sir Everyone looks at him weird. O'Brian: Well, I will be. Referencing that he was in a time travel episode during Deep Space Nine
This is still my absolute favourite Star Trek meme.

04.02.2026 22:27 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0That's what I always think of too!
In fact I looked up who James Baxter was when I first saw the episode because it was all so oddly specific I felt like it had to be a reference to someone. ๐

Yeah, at first glance I really like how Khronos improves contrast and saturation!
I'll have to read a little more on it because I'm not sure if a tone mapper is a good idea for this kind of NPR work or not. But I suppose if I prefer the results, then that's all that mattersโฆ
Huh, I've only ever heard this quoted as "โฆyou'll land on the roof."
I suppose that must be a joke version of this one, but I prefer it. ๐
You must have discovered Cel-Vinyl just as they were going out of business! ๐
03.02.2026 20:09 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0That's good to know! I should have looked up examples I supposeโฆ
03.02.2026 20:08 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Oh, I loved that show! It should have run for much longer. A gem.
03.02.2026 19:48 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0A bonus tip I suppose is to study what it is you are trying to emulate! I've been doing a lot of reading into not just TAS and Filmation, but 70s limited animation techniques and even the paints that were used. I'm not even trying to recreate that look perfectly, but it all goes in the noggin.
03.02.2026 19:46 โ ๐ 11 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I remembered the name of the channel, if you're interested. He makes good videos!
03.02.2026 18:35 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0And that's all for now! I'd be happy to answer any questions, on the proviso that you understand I'm far from an expert on any of this!
Or did I miss anything? Is there a good tutorial I should add? Or should I be doing something different?
Otherwise, thanks for reading this far. I love you. ๐
Do one thing at a time. I only delved into the compositor recently. I still haven't even looked at Geometry Nodes! For the longest time, I just worked on learning modelling.
It's a VERY daunting app, but there are some great resources.
Another 2D VFX tutorial by SharpWind showcases a variety of other techniques. I do want to try an explosion soon!
03.02.2026 18:19 โ ๐ 7 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0One of the next things I want to try is energy VFX for some phaser and photon torpedo action. SamBam Studios has lots of great (and recent!) tutorials on this kind of thing.
