That's a very interesting possibility tho! Makes sense to me. Some VFX artists having fun vibing on 2001-style graphics for stock footage.

Might not even be motion control honestly, just creative use of a rostrum camera or something. It really looks analog to me. And CGI was certainly not an easier option for a trailer at that time either! There's a higher def version on YT/in this thread somewhere.

Could be. I never found anything definitive. But I think it was more basic animation perhaps over some motion controlled footage of the lines, since they're so smooth.

It doesn't mean I'd want everything to be TMP. But imagine if every story of a villain out for revenge got replaced by something more ambitious, that strove to create sense of wonder.

I've said this myself. IMO, Star Trek would be better if TMP had been the hit that TWOK was.
