Android users, I want to only get app-level notifications from mentions, not likes. Does the Bluesky app really only give me the option of likes+mentions from everyone, likes+mentions from people I follow, or nothing? Am I missing something or did they really go all in on the dopamine machine here?

I'm pretty sure Jim Morris did nothing wrong here, but if I was Jim, I'd be talking to defamation lawyers.

It is unclear in the Google News UI where the summary text comes from, which gets attributed to the author, but probably is Google's AI. This is part of what Google News presents as a partnership with @apnews.com. No other disclaimer. I also have disabled every AI feature I can in my Google account.

FYI this was from Google News, and the linked article correctly states it was Quebec that had referendums. So direct outrage to Google too. But does @apnews.com know Google News is summarizing their articles with lies and attributing that to an AP journalist's name?

Third bullet point: Alberta, a largely French-speakimg province of Quebec, held referendums in 1980 and 1995 over separation. Both failed.

Looks like @apnews.com is using AI to summarize articles without even checking for basic facts... Or are they really this ignorant about Canada? Either way, shameful.

Also this is the plot of basically every coming of age movie and very special TV episode about bullying, the protagonist gives the bullies their lunch money and the bullies instantly respect them and leave them alone.

If I am remembering 20th c history right, when the fascists take power and start making illegal, unconscionable demands, all you have to do is appease them a little. Just give in to their initial demands, ignore how they call you the enemy of the people, and they will leave you alone. 🙄🙄🙄🤔🤨🙃🤥

The last time it rained in San Diego (more than 0.1 in / 0.25 cm in a day) was in March 2024. It finally started raining this morning and I realized I had forgotten what rain sounds like.

Back in the last AI hype news cycle, when the grifters kept claiming they'd built Artificial General Intelligence, I made a single serving site so you can easily check if AGI has indeed arrived or not (spoiler alert: lol no): hasAGIarrived.com

Looks like it is San Diego's turn for the wildfires. UCSD was so close from having to evacuate yesterday, with a fire that got a few blocks from campus. Now the border is literally on fire.

At one extreme, one finds that the performer can be fully taken in by his own act; and he can be sincerely convinced that the impression of reality which he stages is the real reality. When the audience is also convinced in this way about the show he put one – and this seems to be the typical case – then for the moment at least, only the sociologist or the socially disgruntled will have any doubts about the ‘realness’ of what is presented.
