Columbia will uphold its commitment to Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 by providing safe and fair opportunities for women including single-sex housing for women who request such housing and all-female sports, locker rooms, and showering facilities.

Buried in Columbia's agreement/bribe with the Trump regime (and not reported by the news) is a section which agrees to segregate trans women from women's housing, sports, and bathrooms. Functionally, trans women are no longer welcome at Columbia University.

The Department of Administrative Services of Iowa, which recently got oversight over the State Historical Society of Iowa, has decided to close the SHSI's Iowa City location--and also end the 163-year-old Annals of Iowa, unless another sponsor can be found. The Iowa City Centennial Building houses many more archives than can be (eventually) housed in Des Moines--the only estimate I have seen is that 60% of the archives will be deaccessed, with significant problems regarding breaking pledges to keep donated items, and the ability of remaining staff to process the materials to be deaccessed. I am writing you because you are an organizer or a historian, who may have ideas about how to stop or mitigate these actions. I realize there are other assaults on our collective that are even more egregious, but if you have any time for thoughts on strategy for this, it would be appreciated.

Received this plea today re: the closing of the Iowa City branch of the Iowa State Historical Society, archives deaccessed, and shuttering of Iowa's 160+ year old peer-reviewed history journal as a result of decisions made by the Iowa Dept of Administrative Services. (h/t @wickenkamp.bsky.social)
