Huh, I didn't see that. Looking him up just now, all I can find is that he supposedly left the Dem party to sit as an independent, then, in 2023, ran for school board and lost (finishing behind four other candidates).

I'm white, and I've never been much of a fan of JB. The real lasting result of his actions is not clear to me. I suspect that other abolitionists moved us further forward. But they generally failed to murder anybody, so maybe that isn't as interesting.

I see that, but the concept of rights is still a valuable tool.

The arguments I saw were that rights always had to be specified and were therefore inherently limited and subject to being diluted by rules-lawyering; and that anything that could be taken away from you (as rights can be) meant that Rights aren't Really Real.

Point being that if your anti-colonial analysis is so easily highjacked by right wing conservatives affiliated with people who are actively seeding anti-LGBTQ policies abroad, it's probably a good idea to question the adequacy of that analysis.
