What Is It Like to Be a Buzzard? – Feral Methods On a slope above our house lives a buzzard. Her sharp cries shake me out of the current of human things I am caught in; and when I look up at the sky, I see her circling overhead. The question that rises is not new, but I want to ask it again, not what it is like to be a bat, but what it is like to be a buzzard.

What is it like to be a buzzard?
This essay is about looking up, and being looked at in return; about sharing a sky with another species, and wondering what it means to live in radical symmetry with it. dimitrij.splet.arnes.si/2025/06/18/w...

Roxy Music’s Avalon video, directed by Ridley Scott, is the missing bridge between xenomorphs and replicants. Media archaeology reminder: worlds bleed through shared images, not tidy continuities. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpA_...

This is journalism as it should be, devoted, investigative, clear-headed, and professional. Work like yours plays a crucial role in disentangling this mess and in making reconciliation and resolution even possible. Thank you, also @mrsoup.bsky.social.

Yes, of course - but without your investigative work and careful reporting they wouldn’t have had the opportunity to tell, and we wouldn’t have had the chance to hear. Thank you!

When (or if) the current EAA mess is finally cleared up, with new leadership, proper accountability, and an ethical compass restored, we really ought to make @andybrockman.bsky.social a honorary EAA member. If anything good comes of this debacle, it will be thanks to his investigative spadework.

This is more than distressing. Unless there is full accountability, I do not see how the EAA can continue in its present form.

Two stylized human figures, possibly wearing hooded parkas, walk side by side in simple profile at the top center of the image. Around them are several pencil-drawn creatures: four bear- or dog-like animals—some standing on two legs, others on four—and one large, humanoid monster with a bulbous body, clawed hands, and spindly tentacle-like limbs. One of the quadrupeds appears crouched, and two upright figures face each other at the lower left. The drawing is monochrome with minimal shading, and a signature or annotation (“NETSEVAK E7957”) appears in the lower right corner.

Calling all #EAA past and present members! A lot of us are not happy with the events of last week, and with EAA's bleak attitute towards the ongoing genocide. Sign this petition for a special meeting, so we can call a vote of confidence against the current board. Thanks!

I don’t think this is an honest response so much as damage control. The language is vague to the point of evasion,
no clear timelines, no concrete commitments, and no direct addressing of the elephant in the room. bsky.app/profile/dimi...

Appeal to volunteerism as shield: “we all volunteer our time, a big task is ahead.” Sympathy invoked, critique framed as ingratitude. Moral blackmail. If you can’t take it-stand down. Or just stand down.

Kicking the can down the road: a “larger project” to revisit politics & activism, with talk of “future direction of travel” & “big task ahead.” No timeline, no actors, no commitments. Just delay, hoping outrage cools before accountability arrives.

Collectivisation of response: “we can’t reply individually, only collectively.” Responsibility is blurred, no President or ExB member accountable. Anger diffused, but no one answerable.

Administrative proceduralism as diversion: endless talk of minutes, recordings, data protection, surveys, timelines. Bureaucratic ritual replaces accountability, as if “following procedure” could substitute for trust.

They frame outrage as a problem of “clarity.” Apologising “if that was not clear” turns political misconduct into mere miscommunication. Classic gaslighting: anger is recast as confusion, not justified outrage.

The release dodges the real cause of outrage: the ExB’s decision against Israeli delegates, its opaque reversal, and silence on who pulled the strings. The real issue (executive overreach, democratic breakdown, intimidation) is erased under bureaucratic euphemism.

The latest announcement by @archaeologyeaa.bsky.social (“Next steps after the AMBM…”): This isn’t accountability, it’s gaslighting: vague apologies, procedural smokescreens, no responsibility, deferring debate, hiding behind volunteerism. Textbook damage control. #EAA

EAA GAZA U-TURN TIMELINE OFFERS MORE QUESTIONS THAN ANSWERS The beleaguered Executive Board of the European Association of Archaeologists has offered members a timeline of events leading to the reversal of its decision to ask delegates from Israeli institut…

Not accurate: Israeli delegates weren’t banned. The EAA Board first required them to appear w/out affiliations (as with Russian colleagues), then reversed under pressure from undisclosed actors, sparking outrage in the Association. Timeline: thepipeline.info/blog/2025/09...

Yes! We are more as it was clear in yesterday’s meeting. The membership has spoken. We should stand our ground and fight for the EAA we believe in: open, democratic, and accountable.!

John Chapman invoked the phrase “Wenn die Kanonen sprechen, schweigen die Musen” to critique the Board’s recent communication, a reminder that suppressing free expression in times of crisis is the mark of authoritarianism, not leadership.
