RELEASE THE LEASE MSOE Quietly Released A Statement Regarding The ICE Facility on Knapp Street THEY ARE HIDING THE TRUTH MSOE YDSA

Hours before TMJ4 reported on the Knapp St. Building, MSOE quietly released a statement. The statement failed to mention DHS or ICE. TMJ4 NEWS AT 6 "IT'S REALLY DISHEARTENING TO SEE" MSOE STUDENTS PUSH BACK ON CAMPUS "ICE" OFFICE The statement says "the GSA elected to continue its occupancy beyond the original lease term". The GSA handles real estate for the Department of Homeland Security, which ICE operates under. MSOE knew this when they agreed to aquire the building.

On Monday, MSOE decided to add to their statement. They continue to state they cannot end the lease, but still fail to provide any real justification. MSOE claims they must continue leasing to DHS due to "inherited lease terms and federal authority". They try to compare this authority to eminent domain, saying the landlord has no choice if the government demands to use certain private property. But they refuse to provide specifics: What federal authority requires this? What are the actual lease terms? ICE OF M.S.O.E

MSOE hides their relationship with DHS. The university began working with DHS long before they inherited the lease to 310 E Knapp Street. In 2018, for example, DHS paid the university thousands in exchange for access to the school's fitness and recreational sport centers. How can MSOE claim to value stewardship when maintaining a relationship with an agency that harasses, terrorizes, and deports members of the community?

MSOE continues to downplay its role in cooperating with the DHS and ICE. Pressure from reports out of TMJ4, Milwaukee Public Radio, 404 News, and more forced the university to release a statement regarding the ICE office which MSOE owns on Knapp Street. This statement left out crucial information.

Lawmakers have introduced a bill that would make Veterans Day a state holiday in Wisconsin.

"Let us do something for a veteran, and make November 11 a state holiday,” State Rep. Maureen McCarville said after the bill's proposal.
