The BBC took this adaptation extremely seriously. The 1977/78 season of "Dr Who" had a vampire story scripted and the director allocated. It was shelved by BBC management who feared that it would reduce the impact of the "Dracula" adaptation.
The "Dr Who" story was finally made three years later.
