I love trees and fog and how they dance and play together. I watched this scene for awhile.

I started journaling againβ€”written narratives & meditations, not just jotted notesβ€”or at least trying to. It takes so much time & offers many hand cramps. How often I used to write by hand for hours a day back in school. How little I do now! Now: the occasion to.

PAST

What is the past?

We needed a word for everything before.
See how my saying this is already there, and there for good β€”no fishing it out of that deep water, the deepest there is. The past is a tide that drags out but won't return to shore: even your question has been carried off. Look, you can see it floating. Anything heavier settles unseen like wreckage for a silver ribbon of fish to slip through. The past is not all distant. We can stand at its edge, watching the waves do the backbreaking work of pulling, pulling away. From the shore, the past seems to go on forever, because it does. We say it was a different time, but all times are different. This one, for instance. And again, this one.

A landscape photo featuring the massive, snow-capped Mount Baker, partially covered by low-hanging clouds, dominating the background. The foreground shows a deep valley filled with dark green conifer trees, which gives way to lighter green alpine meadows and rocky slopes in the middle ground, all leading up to the large, glaciated peak under a dramatic, cloudy sky.

I love the mix of deep green valleys, rocky slopes, and that soft light you only get on an overcast day. It feels quiet out there in a way you can’t really explain until you stand in it yourself.

Right now, there are many things to figure out across the many different disciplines BUT the new accessibility mandates ARE going to make learning much easier for many more students, as the classes will have to be accessible from the start! Other benefit? Students don’t have to SEEK accommodations.

Which is why I wanted to let you all know now, publishers! Support your authors’ abilities to be visiting writers are universities by making their texts accessible! And also know that instructors scanning the books & remediating them for accessibility IS legal for educational reasons.

This is going to have a unique impact on creative writing programs that have visiting writers series, especially when poets, hybrid, &/or experimental writers are invited, especially when there are no ebooks, which seems to be the case more often in these genres.

W3C standards and drafts The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is an international community where Member organizations, a full-time staff, and the public work together to develop Web standards.

Publishers, do your book designers know how to format your ebooks &/or PDF manuscripts in an accessible format? If not, you’re going to need to learn if you want American universities to teach your texts! Start here: www.w3.org/TR/?status%5...

If your books aren’t available through library databases &/or the usual ebook marketplaces in an ACCESSIBLE format, instructors won’t legally be able to teach your books, they will have to scan & remediate PDFs (extra labor, often time-consuming), or they will reach out to you for accessible PDFs.

Hey, publishers, especially poetry ones, I need you to know something: As of April 26, 2026, universities will have to meet new federal accessibility standards, which means all assigned & suggested texts must be screen reader accessible. (Thread)

The Red Poppy

The great thing
is not having
a mind. Feelings:
oh, I have those; they
govern me. I have
a lord in heaven
called the sun, and open
for him, showing him
the fire of my own heart, fire
like his presence.
What could such glory be
if not a heart? Oh my brothers and sisters, were you like me once, long ago,
before you were human? Did you
permit yourselves
to open once, who would never
open again? Because in truth
I am speaking now
the way you do. I speak
because I am shattered.

OK, LOOK

I went into the woods alone alone
and came out wet and aware
of the blight that's killing the aspens.

You could write things down just as they are, just as you see them. You could try that.
