Took me back 50 years to when I was 7, sitting in front of my black and white TV. Chills.

Such a clownish response. Pathetic really.

My first story will appear Thursday & I'll have previews for spring sports soon.
Come check it out. It's a daunting, but exciting venture and I hope you'll like what you see.

In return, you'll continue to get in-depth game stories and now that I don't have to write for print, I'll be able to do more features, historical features, etc., with the possibility of adding some exciting new things down the road. I'm also slightly broadening my coverage area

While my content has always been free, I hope you'll understand that times change and to keep longform game stories alive, I'll need some help in the form of a few dollars per month (or a discounted yearly rate)...

Welcome! For the past quarter-century, I've had the pleasure of covering high school sports for The Forecaster. Now, it's time for a new adventure. A place where longform game stories will live on. And that...

Happy Sunday everyone.

I'm pleased to announce the debut of Hoffer's High School Sports, a new site dedicated to the local game coverage that you've grown accustomed to during my time with The Forecaster.

And I'm not ready to hang up my pen and retire to the rocking chair just yet. I'm going to continue doing what I do best. I'm weighing my options going forward and after I get back from a well-timed, much-needed vacation to Aruba next week, I'll announce where you can read my content going forward.

If someone had told me back in the day I'd get to be a paid sportswriter for 25 minutes, I'd have jumped at it. To do it for 25 years was beyond my wildest dreams. It's been the great joy of my life. I am so incredibly fortunate.

I've had the privilege of working alongside some of the best writers, editors and management the state has produced over the past quarter-century, I've met so many great friends (and best of all, my wife) through my job and I will always treasure all of those relationships.

As you can see by these photos, I grew up in this job, in more ways than one. I've always joked that what I do "beats working for a living" and it's so true.

They, along with our longtime editor, Mo Mehlsak, gave me the support and freedom to cover local sports with a different, more in-depth approach, and the end result was a dream job and a product that was warmly received by the community.

While it's a time of sadness and uncertainty, I'm opting to focus on gratitude...

Back in the fall of 1999, Marian McCue and Karen Rajotte (now Wood) took a chance on me and I'm forever in their debt.

A professional/life update...Please read to the end...

My 25-year affiliation with The Forecaster has come to an end, as our ownership group shut down the print editions effective this week. My time with the company has come to an end as well.

He and Davis Mann would have combined for 85 points and Nokomis would have won, but not as easily as you'd think.

I saw plenty of Tom Chambers back in the day with the Suns. Good player, who in my memory, came up small in big games. Cooper's upside blows Chambers out of the water.
