We should not have to buy our heritage back from treasure hunters. And our museums should not be in stark, market-driven financial competition with auction houses for our shared past. ๐Ÿบ

Appeal to save Bronze Age torc found in Leicestershire It is hoped the golden torc can be kept in a Leicestershire museum rather than being sold.

A fundraising appeal has been launched to keep a 3,000-year-old golden torc found near Market Harborough in the county.

I'm waiting for York
To claim our torc.

Speaking of ice murder sports, one of the biggest downfalls of a hero ever must be how Teemu Selรคnne turned into Temu Gretzky.

Heโ€™s been openly a full blown MAGA diehard and a general moron for a decade now. Hereโ€™s just one and relatively innocuous example out of far too many.

I've followed the EMEC research work based in Eday, Orkney for many years - they are very good neighbours! This is great news both for the EMEC team and the Eday community.

Reform would create ICE-style agency and end leave to remain, Zia Yusuf to say Nigel Farageโ€™s party plans to deport up to 288,000 people a year on five flights a day and expand stop and search

Is there any demand for a British ICE? And abolishing indefinite right to remain would only drain the country of care workers, doctors and nurses and make Britain a pariah state... www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Archaeologistsโ€™ race to save ancient footprints from the sea A storm uncovered 2,000-year-old tracks on a Scottish beach, prompting a frantic effort to record them before they vanished forever

Exciting archaeology story this. A storm uncovered 2000 year old footprints, giving archaeologists only hours to record the site before the tide and weather destroyed it

Labour has been pushing lies about the Greensโ€™ policy on reducing drug misuse. This is a policy that has already been very successful in Portugal. It has reduced harmful drug taking by ending the so-called โ€œwar on drugsโ€.

Last month, University of Wisconsin-Madison Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin approved a proposal to establish a College of Computing and Artificial Intelligence funded by private corporations and philanthropy.
Mnookin said the move was a response to the inevitable creep of artificial intelligence into all disciplines of academia. Rather than reject AI, she envisioned a university that capitalized on this change by making artificial intelligence a "hub" connecting the humanities to computer science.

On the first day of my economics elective this spring, my professor said we would be expected to use NotebookLM to pass his class. He had lengthened the coding assignments so that they would be doable only with the help of AI. The reading assignments were longer, too: ten 40-page papers per week, which he asked us to feed into AI for a summary rather than read ourselves. When it came to lectures, he told us to simply upload the slides to AI and ask it to teach us whatever he failed to explain properly in class.

BLEAK. Bleak. Iโ€™d been paying attention to Columbia selling out its governance to the Trump admin, not so much its stance on AI.

Cool lecture we are holding in Nottingham. How did agriculture impact society in Neolithic China?

Rice in the south offered reliable yields, supporting the rise of sedentary communities.

In the north, millets produced lower yields, encouraging mobility.
