I’ve made it through 2 Halloweens this year - one at the campground where I am a seasonal camper and the real one at home tonight. I gave out candy to more than 700 children between the two trick or treat events. It is wonderful to see such joy on their faces, and yet, I weep for their future.

I live catty corner from a funeral home. Doesn’t bother me. It gives me the opportunity to pray for people I don’t know. Today there was a wake, lots of cars parked on my street. I saw in the paper the name of the deceased, and I worried that ICE was going to show up. That bothers me.

Just fried a pound of bacon to add to a baked potato soup I’m making for dinner. My husband just called me “weird” for saving the bacon grease for use in future cooking. We’ve been together for a couple of decades now but he’s never noticed that his weekend breakfast is cooked in bacon grease?

Thanks for your kind words about my mother. I grew up with a 1950’s stay at home mom who taught me how to cook, sew, garden, be thrifty, and care for a home in a 1970’s Mary Tyler Moore society that told me I could be whatever I wanted to be. I know how to be both. I am blessed to be certain.

I’m not sure that Pope was in good enough health to even know that the VP of the US was the person he was talking to. I agree that a refusal to see him would have been better. Just not sure that a day before his death he was able to discern who was coming to see him in order to save their own souls.
