Interesting. This could be what the franchise needs … if they put it into the hands of top decision-makers who actually understand what they are working with and, as you say, respect and continue what has come before and don't treat Star Trek as generic sci-fi.

Oh, yeah. I've always heard that was just a mistake, but the first episode in which Shatner is credited as James T. Kirk, and we hear someone say James T, is "Mudd's Women," the fourth produced, so I'm not sure if they really just hadn't chosen a middle name yet and were thinking about R.

It's a great one for sure.

I've never considered him a Q, but certainly his powers align well with that. It's surprising that the Thasians (who the crew speculates he might be) have never been followed up on in the litverse, save one comic.
