A human hand, presumably regular sized, as in not some inhuman giant hand or anything, just a regular normal hand, and in it is held three baby turtles OMG they are so cute they aren't even as wide as a single finger! Just tiny little guys! Can you believe it??? They look very sincere and polite I wish I could feed them little leaves or other turtle food. They are adorable and you love them. πŸ”«πŸ‘€ Say you love them. Say it.

We'd better build more AI data centers, AI will fix this problem for us --

*waits five years*

The oceans have boiled and the drinking water is gone but at least all the intellectual property has been stolen and now I can use AI to create a really accurate representation of Batman fucking Pikachu

Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.

Distribution is THE under-reported story in book publishing (outside of the trade publications) and losing B&T is going to have untold ripple effects on the industry, small presses, and authors.

Said this in the Vulture slack, but this Emmys made me angry. Not because of the results: Lots of great choices from what was a great year of TV.

But the show had zero interest in celebrating TV: No montages, no clips (with sound) from the shows, and no interest in anything remotely surprising

What pisses me off about this deducting money from a charity bit is that it assumes the viewers want the speeches to be short. And we don't, at least not all of us!

Why do awards shows constantly try to tell the few people who still watch them that they are dumb for liking them?

OK, putting the money counter on when someone is basking in their win is just gross. It’s a fun idea but the Emmys shouldn’t be a reality show.

The city that gave the world Siskel & Ebert no longer has a full-time print film critic.

so, in the course of a month, the New York Times reassigned four veteran critics, the Washington Post’s film critic took a buyout, Vanity Fair decided it doesn’t need a film critic at all, and the Associated Press got rid of book criticism altogether?

Cool.

a long, light brown creature rests on her back. her eyes are drooping closed, her tongue sticks out a teeny bit, and she has no visible ears. her front paws (flippers?) are tucked up close to her body like a t-rex’s arms. the long noodle body has no other appendages within frame. (it's a chihuahua, or so we're told, but we would also have bought "potato" or "sea otter.")

Warner Bros. has said The Hunt for Gollum is in fact the first of two new Lord of the Rings feature films from Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens based on J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth, as the company aims to make more of the franchise. With The Hunt for Gollum, we’ll get to see what Gollum was up to in the years between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

Everywhere You Go Has Valet: "Clueless" at 30 (Or Whatever) | Features | Roger Ebert On the classic teen comedy, that's still leaving us totally buggin' three decades on.

"Cher and her father Mel are both kooks who think they’re the baseline for determining normalcyβ€”like everyone else in the movie, really. All great comedies have this in common, and Clueless is one of them."β€” I got to write about a movie that I absolutely adore

I will say, though: Diego Luna robbed. And to follow @thefienprint.bsky.social’s β€œWho do you replace?” dictate, I’d probably Luna in for Pedro Pascal, who was not a lead performer in more than half of this season of β€œThe Last of Us.”

(grumbles about the Emmys pretending "Interview with the Vampire" isn't a brilliantly made television show)

I know there's longstanding bias against genre shows. And AMC is kinda "who?" in Hollywood. I know Emmy noms just just reflect what industry are watching β€” but WHY aren't they watching it??
