But as I travel’d hither through the land,
I find the people strangely fantasied,
Possess’d with rumors, full of idle dreams,
Not knowing what they fear, but full of fear.

The way I’d put it is…a not insignificant portion of the internet—and the world, I guess—defines themselves not by the things they do and love, but their opposition to others. When you take that away, they’re bereft of purpose.

Priced at £28000000 with a picture of woman reading.

“Adopt our historians!
Your adoption supports researchers and teachers in our care at London Zoo whilst also helping us protect historians in the wild. It's a gift that gives back!
Humanities adoption is fantastic value for money, including all of the following contents:
-A PhD student comes to live with you.
•Exclusive feeling that you are propping up our once impressive higher education system.
•Free historical facts! Ever wanted to know the birthrate in England in 1812 or why documents are folded like that in archive? You will now!
-Critical thinking skills. Never be duped by the misleading information on a milk carton or Facebook ad ever again. (Not guaranteed).
-A comprehensive, informative booklet all about the practical past.
Please note, we recommend historians are not left unattended with children or young adults due to the danger of spreading history.”

Katie Nolan, in 2020, said that Twitter was a great experience if you had around 1,000 followers. I think that’s the spirit of bluesky

⚖️🧵

1/ This story about the folly of predicting jury timing was recounted to me by the District Court judge for whom I clerked, Judge Herbert N. Maletz. I can't vouch for its authenticity, but I can vouch that this is exactly the way I remember him telling it to me in 1995.
