If you were uncomfortable with ever hugging your friends because you were worried about these same things I would be okay with it but also I would find it limiting. And there's a minor culture of shame around cuddling that there really isn't with hugging! It seems to make sense idk

The fact that you're personally uncomfortable with the idea of doing something with your friends doesn't make what you said about the original post being nonsense more reasonable, though... cuddling isn't inherently more sexual than anything else and I just don't get what point you've been making

I think that in the logic of the last few lines here, you could never be friends with somebody you were attracted to, which I find pretty horrifying. Having arousal and acting on it, the distinction between those, is important! And the fact that penises make one of those visible doesn't change that

You're conflating not having a choice on the arousal with not having a choice over whether the situation itself is sexual, which is the whole point of the original post. Having a boner in any other social scenario wouldn't immediately transform it into a sex act and so neither should it for cuddling

It's not coddling men, it's just stating the obvious that "whether there's something about this event that makes us stop being friends" is not a natural edict, it's a product of the actual relationship and social context involved.

It's a pretty widely-held belief. But that's what the premise of the original is disagreeing with. I disagree with it, also. I've cuddled with friends of mine, I'd class it a lot closer to hugging than groping or grinding or whatever you're gesturing to here. So, a boner doesn't impede the boundary.

So, I think the reasonable conclusion here is that you probably think cuddling is inherently sexual, that it's something only partners should be able to do without crossing the boundary into being something more, and I guess I can sort of understand that, culturally.

We are both capable of deciding that we are in a non-sexual relationship, and so that the things we do will not naturally lead into sex, and the fact that our bodies theoretically think that we're about to have sex is less important than our own agency on the matter.

But what I do have control over is whether to make what we're doing about being sexual partners instead of doing this as friends. A boner wouldn't make, like, skydiving with my friend non-platonic, or, for a relevant example, it wouldn't make hugging my friend into 'rubbing my erection against her'.

And I'd wager that most people can at least agree with the former statement there. If I'm in incredibly close contact with one of them, I'm likely to get physiologically aroused. That is not something I have control over, and I'd assume you agree.

Just setting aside the fact that boners can be caused by things other than sexual attraction to someone (because yes, I agree that in the case of cuddling it's probably pretty likely to be because of attraction, lol), I think most of my friends are attractive! I think most people are attractive!
