There are a few rules federal deposit libraries have to follow. But they're small (basically they need to care for and provide access to documents) and the only consequence is removal from the program. And IA can also just choose to leave if there's a problem. See www.fdlp.gov/file-downloa...

No. It only means that the Internet Archive (which is still an independent org) will obtain copies of government documents and be responsible for providing them to the general public. They'll just get documents directly from the government directly, in addition to their existing sourcing.

We need to reach out in a respectful way so they feel that they can let go of their existing beliefs. Admitting you were wrong is a difficult and embarrassing thing, and if we want to convince the most people, we need to make that as easy as possible.

The vast majority of anti-vaxxers (ie. not the influencers) aren't waking up in the morning going, "how can I get kids sick today?" They are concerned parents and families who have been conned.

If the goal is science communication, to share that vaccines are safe and effective, you don't want your language to turn off the people who need to hear that information the most.

some kinds of strict anti-bot measures can make it very hard for crawlers to access data, downloading and storing petabytes of data is not cheap or easy (but can be done), and we can't even access a lot of the data because it isn't public

The tracker page shows the leaderboard of data archived by each user on the left side, and a feed of newly archived items on the right side. An item is a small piece of a website, in this case individual URLs. The top of the page shows the number of items done/todo and total data.

Not an actual bot

cohost had very high costs as well - $42k/mo to support 17k MAU isn't sustainable

I give it about a week or two before we get a bunch of brands followed swiftly by brand blocklists. Should be enough time for maximum meetings to occur.

We won't. They probably just set up Threads as a destination in their social media management software, so everything still goes there despite the lack of engagement. Eventually someone might notice and care enough to get rid of it.

And the benefit is that a company can give their employees handles like bob.washingtonpost.com or create other sub-accounts (maybe you have accounts that post in different languages) without having to go through another company to individually verify each one

13.11.2024 19:29 β€” πŸ‘ 12    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

It's a decentralized platform. Handles are domain names. They can't do central verification because it creates centralization. Just look at the domain instead

Bluesky is a decentralized platform - we have the power to stop it from becoming a toxic sludge. Run your own instance or join someone else's!

Never rely on one company to keep things right forever.

the sanity docker has gained me in (not) dealing with dependencies and weird configs has far outweighed the little bit of learning it took to get "good enough"

From my understanding I'd like to add on that a decrease in US consumption could drive prices up worldwide because of lower sales volumes.
