Spotify removing an album I've been listening to a lot recently and then emailing me about a price increase on the same day is certainly an interesting NPS strategy

Apple servers seem to be doing OK with the #ios26 update as far as I can tell. Phone and laptop both updated and the iPad is speeding along. Pretty impressive given everything must be getting slammed at the moment.

Good news! I've found something AI is terrible at – generating vector files. I asked ChatGPT to generate a simplified black-and-white logo involving a D20, and it decided the best bet was what can only be described as a bicycle wheel.

I mean I suppose you could still roll it...

Rob Against the Machine: When Claude Code and ChatGPT drove me spare and I learned about prisma dev I've been trying to experiment a little with agentic AI when writing code. In principle it sounds incredibly cool –* ask a robot what code you'd like written, and it does the heavy lifting for you. A...

Wrote up yesterday's mayhem where both ChatGPT and Claude denied that the `prisma dev` command existed: hashtagwebscale.com/rob-against-...

Prisma CLI reference | Prisma Documentation This page gives an overview of all available Prisma CLI commands, explains their options and shows numerous usage examples.

After a brief exchange with a friend who can actually read documentation (unlike yours truly, who failed completely), it turns out there is an explanation in the docs (www.prisma.io/docs/orm/ref...). The LLMs haven't quite caught up yet though

In fact it's weirder than that. Claude Sonnet gave me a detailed run down that didn't seem to reflect what the command actually does, then when I quizzed it admitted it made the whole thing up and says the command doesn't exist πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

My adventures with Claude Code have taken a new turn. It set up a database URL in my .env which was based off running `prisma dev`. It works great, and I can run `npx prisma dev` myself.

Only problem is, I can't find any docs, and both Claude Sonnet and ChatGPT claim the command doesn't exist.

Thanks! Will give it a go

I haven't seen the 2025 War of the Worlds, but the trailer uses the phrase "It's worse than you think".

What's particularly fun is when it tries to implement something, runs the tests, and then if they fail goes back on what it implemented and tries something else. It's fascinating. I've seen it wipe out entire files that it literally just created.

Messing around with Claude Code and tried to get it to implement some authentication with @authjs.dev and @svelte.dev. I can only conclude that either Claude isn't quite there yet, or I _really_ don't know how to use it properly. I suspect it's the latter

I'm sure there are plenty more examples! Certainly not wanting to diminish what LLMs do – it's incredible and fun to work with, but I'd be surprised if they sped things up by 10x in the time we've had them

Depends on the situation as they can vary wildly, but here are a few examples I've encountered: constant context switching, sprawling codebases that have been developed with high dev churn, and new features without a chance to clean up. A lot comes down to management rather than just tooling.

Ultimately LLMs are just tooling - it’s still going to take a while before they’re used to their full potential. But there are definitely some interesting questions as to whether it solves the real problems that slow software development down

A very Happy New Year to everyone!

I rarely make New Year’s resolutions, but I am tempted to experiment this year to see what would help me keep up with new projects and habits πŸ€”

Dungeons & Dragons as a team icebreaker This post comes with a warning: what I'm about to describe isn't remotely close to the rules of Dungeons & Dragons. DnD purists would be horrified at the lax rules, meta-gaming, and rampant inconsiste...
