But yeah, I think we're seeing that either side can "crave" power. I know Trump won the popular vote this time around, but he didn't in his first term. Is a cynical power grab from a side elected by a minority of the country's population better than one from a majority, or is it perhaps even worse?

Either way, I genuinely appreciate the discussion, as you seem honest. I'll also add that I think the electoral college is another tool that can drive a wedge between Americans ("red states" vs "blue states"). It drives the idea that Americans have to "beat" each other instead of sharing a state

The electoral college is essentially affirmative action for rural voters (and those from small states). It actually removes representation from voters in large industrial and commercial areas (where you do have a large diversity of views), and enables a tyranny of a largely homogeneous minority.

We live in a multi-tiered system where people have municipal --> county --> state --> federal level representation. There are tons of ways people can have gov't representation that's not through the federal gov't. In my view I just think every level should be 1 man - 1 vote. Is that so crazy?

I mean, read whatever you want (and I'd defend your right to do so). But unless you're in high school I think you'll quickly come to the conclusion that Libertarianism is a deeply incoherent ideology devised by people who are already immensely privileged (and yes, it's self-indulgent as well)

But having a permanent rural minority that overpowered an urban majority is something they definitely would have viewed as tyranny. Their form of Republic was to temper and distill democracy to curb it's fiercest excesses, not to override or deny it.

The Republic IS a form of Democracy. The founding fathers (though not completely agreed), wanted to TEMPER democracy by making it representative, and wanted to equally empower the states through the Senate (again, something they were fiercely split about).

Again, it's where people live. Virtually EVERY city in the United States is at the very least purple, and usually blue. The rest of that is space is alarmingly empty land. I view the situation you describe as a tyranny of the minority. By your logic, why not designate power by county...by sq foot?
