Mohammad. A man wearing a black t-shirt and glasses stands gently, arms crossed in a self-embrace β his right hand resting on his left shoulder, and his left arm, which has a visible disability, folded across his chest. Behind him stands a sculpture of a dancing girl with only one arm. She appears to be leaping or twirling mid-air, wearing a dress that flows like feathers. The background resembles a theatrical stage, with curtains drawn aside and a dreamy, forest-like setting behind her. The photo is taken at an exhibition titled βThe Last Rain in a wonderland β in Nottingham β where the artist shares a childhood memory of embracing himself during moments of loneliness, using the same different hand that now holds so much meaning.

Cuts to βAccess to Workβ threaten the entire creative sector. These cuts are an existential threat to disabled creatives, the disability arts sector, and all disabled people in work in general. Our staff team, partners, colleagues, freelancers & artists depend on Access to Work funding. We rely on Access to Work to enable our work and projects to even exist. Without this funding, we would be unable to support anywhere near as many disabled artists as we currently do, or to continue to create the groundbreaking work weβre known for. At present, this support is being cut without reason or explanation and in a move thatβs completely counter to the government narrative of βsupporting disabled people into workβ. These changes to Access to Work funding are forcing us out of work, and risk the collapse of a disability arts sector built over decades of hard work. Jess Thom has recently...
