Numerous accusations from critical media outlets claimed the clinic was a “transing factory” that ignored “holistic” approaches to care and was recklessly prescribing puberty suppressant hormones, known as puberty blockers, to children.

One article from The Times, published in 2022, claimed that at least 1,000 families were planning mass legal action against the Tavistock gender clinic for rushing youngsters into taking puberty blockers.

However, a freedom of information (FOI) request to the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, shared by Yorkshire Bylines, revealed that, between 2012 and 2022, only eight complaints over healthcare provisions had been lodged.

This entire 'debate' is so maddening. We have been promised that a groundswell of rushed, dissatisfied detransitioners was about to emerge for nearly a decade.

Not only have they never materialized, but academic research continues to show small numbers, long assessments and miniscule regret rates.

What this does to those of us with even the thickest of skins is pretty traumatic at the best of times. It wears you down and out.

- So instead of asking whether an action is violent, we might do better to ask simply: does it counteract power disparities, or reinforce them?

This is the fundamental anarchist question. We can ask it in every situation; every further question about values, tactics, and strategy proceeds from it.

The Cass Review and its impact is significant for two reasons. First, it demonstrates that transphobic pop-cultural discourses have real material effects. Transphobic discourses became increasingly publicly popular, which led to increased criticism of current care models for trans youth. Heightened public scrutiny led to the Review's commissioning and the subsequent banning of puberty blockers. There is a direct line between public discourse and restrictions on trans rights.

Second, the Review's impacts are not limited to the United Kingdom. Medical practitioners in the United States are debating how the Review's findings should or should not be implemented (Knopf 2024). In Australia, 17 psychiatrists sent an open letter to The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists advocating that the College “acknowledge the recommendations of the Cass Review as relevant to Australian paediatric gender services” and “call for health ministers to establish an independent body to investigate Australian paediatric gender services and implement relevant recommendations from the Cass Review” (Spencer et al. 2024). Though the College rejected their members' call, it is clear that the sentiments leading to the formation of the Cass Review and the increased skepticism regarding gender-affirming healthcare for youth that has resulted from the Review's reports are not isolated.

Australian scholars Dr Bridgette-Desjardins and Taryn Hepburn explore international impacts of Cass in "The Gender Agenda's Agenda". They say Cass draws on "transphobic pop-cultural discourses", showing "a direct line between public discourse and restrictions on trans rights" doi.org/10.1111/soin...

AT LEAST MEET THE MINIMUM IF YOURE GONNA IGNORE THE MAX? I’m serious. Ignoring burns so much more effort than just helping.

Polanski is a pleasure to interview because he will answer any question about anyone. Wes Streeting? “Wes is attacking me every day on social media because I’m another gay man in politics who is not willing to throw the trans community under the bus and that exposes his abject immorality. He must know what it’s like to be othered but he’s more bothered about power than protecting the other. It’s disgraceful.”

One in six children who died by suicide were LGBTQ+, new data shows Amid heated public debate about whether trans children are dying by suicide, campaigners say we need to "take the politics out of policymaking"

"these figures are much higher than the ones in Appleby's report: 46 trans children dying by suicide over a six-year time period, compared with the six trans children Appleby identified over six years."

Once you back far enough with Greek mythology and hit closer to bedrock with Mycenean stuff, these myths get really shaky; Persephone's story is far older than Hades (meaning he was a later addition), and her descent has a lot of thematic similarities to Inanna recovering her dead mortal husband

John Oxley points out the clear yet often overlooked point that young men 18-24 are the second most liberal, left-leaning group in society (after young women) - being more so than young-ish thirtysomething women, and older women, as well as than men in older cohorts

One of the great tragedies of AI and science is that the proliferation of garbage papers and journals is creating pressure to return to more closed systems based on interpersonal connections and established prestige hierarchies that had only recently been opened up somewhat to greater diversity.

Planet Earth is only liveable – for *us* too – due to the regulating effects of natural ecosystems.
