I think there are colorable arguments that an imposter to the office cannot extend the statute of limitations, but I am skeptical they will succeed.

And so, in her own stupid way, Halligan succeeded. She extended a one-week statute of limitations by eight months — two while she was pretending to be a prosecutor and then six more under a statute.

You're oversimplifying both the formalism and the facts. On formalism: Yes, the standards are different, but that changes only the balancing proportion, not your arguments about the facts. On the facts: Alejandra’s case was about when the teacher’s words were the final straw, not the only straw.
