"Leadership" in that parlance means the top three, Jeffries, Clark, and Aguilar. DeLauro is a leader in the sense that she is a ranking member on a committee, she is not "leadership" in the sense that we use that word in the House in this particular context

Opposition to DHS funding I think

14 days' worth, which is a comparatively tiny amount of money, but yes.

The rule is nearly always a purely partisan vote because it represents majoritarian control of the floor. In this case it also included things besides the funding bill that Dems oppose

03.02.2026 19:25 β€” πŸ‘ 9    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

They can't get a vote on it without breaking the filibuster, which they don't have the votes to do, and even if they did, they don't have the votes to pass the bill. It's not going to pass!

Will be signed into law by the end of the day, so partial shutdown ends tomorrow.

All federal agencies except those in the Department of Homeland Security appropriations bill are now funded through September 30; DHS is funded through 2/13 (next Friday).

Final passage for the Senate-passed funding bill was surprisingly close in the House. Fewer Dems voting yes than I expected and more Republicans voting no. Once again all Dems were here, also. Dem leadership voted no across the board

Because at the time they were saying they had the votes they manifestly did not have the votes

I'm sorry you think it's dangerous, to be clear it is not a comment on the bill's defects, it is a comment on its chances of passing in the Senate. It is not going to pass in the Senate.

Some of the members who hadn't voted voted yes. Final was 217-215

A note on attendance- this is the 11th time House Dems have achieved full attendance in 2026 (out of 51 votes); we had just 1 on absence on another 8. R's have had full attendance 0 times and 1 absence just once. Attendance is a huge factor with the party breakdown so close, and Dems are crushing it

House now voting on the Republican rule (procedural measure) to bring the funding bill to the floor. All Dems present and voting against. R leaders were broadcasting a lot of confidence about winning this vote, which once again was misplaced. Likely they get it eventually but it's not going well rn

House breakdown: 218R - 214D.

Next special election, to replace MTG, is set for March 10th. Possible that will require a runoff, which would push her replacement a bit longer.
