The first Epstein amendment push I've seen from our friends to the north in the Senate, hopefully will not be the last.

It would have made absolutely no difference, it was a wholly fake deadline made up by Republicans for Republicans to drive their whip operation. The point was not to sign it on an arbitrary date that doesn’t matter, it was to create a deadline to give urgency to the whip operation. Which worked

That’s the postscript people on the House Republican tactics- they didn’t work. We passed our bills, failure to pass bills is famously not one of the problems we had during our majority! These tactics don’t work. What we are doing now does work! But for unique reasons that will be hard to duplicate

It strikes me how thoroughly unaware people here are of the times Democrats have used these tactics *this year.* I post about it working and like every comment is people saying “finally” “wow they should have tried before,” unaware that Dems have used basically every tactic in that memo in 2025

On the contrary, this is entry level familiarity with procedure and the precedents are all extremely recent, an intern could have written it. And indeed it is more likely to have been written by someone newer, as I am sure it was, who wasn’t here to see all of these tactics fail (as I did).

I thought that stuff was absolutely idiotic and ridiculous and I still do but it reinforces a belief that is held very deeply on here and I certainly don’t expect to convince anyone about this

Learning that Trump knew he was in the Epstein files the whole time he was suspiciously fighting releasing them and attacking press for reporting stories on his long friendship with Epstein with pictures and video and attacking his former right hand man for saying he was in the files

I’ll let you folks talk but just to be clear on this particular point, that was 9 years ago, the House had nothing whatsoever to do with it, and Republicans held majorities in both chambers at the time

The House is winner-take-all, the minority is structurally powerless. We *were* handed a gift and we are using it, there are not other ways to gum up the works for long periods of time that we just decided not to use because we are assholes. If that were the case it would be much worse?
