the moveset debate is so funny because its not even about the term itself, its about people saying someone has a good or bad moveset, or saying someones moveset in a match was good. it means nothing. you wouldnt look at a painting and be like “wow he used a great brush for this one”

perhaps i missed that connection in my explanation, using real life stuff and not working it into an “in universe” story, to where people want you to lose, is bad heel work. “being disliked” is half of the picture, simply being hated is not enough, its literally missing half of the work

any time the heat is based in a created story and not a real life thing??? id say historically its usually the case. sometimes real life leads to great but like, usually its because it is so well worked into the story that you do actually want to see the bad guy lose instead of not see them at all

its supported by the actual good wrestling. sure real life heat can be hot but that doesnt make you a good heel unless it led into specifically wanting to see you lose a match

the line is if its actually real or not? like hating on the sports team, bringing up random real life things that dont relate to the story, using things outside of the universe of wrestling, things that break the 4th wall to get heat, etc

i stand by the best stuff is a work. why would i want real, the whole thing is fake? much more skill to be an in-kayfabe heel than to just grab some heat from real life. making me hate a character is much cooler than just, being bad

depends if the person or the character is dislikable. heels job is to make you wanna see them get beat, not dislike them so much you tune out

hanger may be the most unassuming great wrestler. like off the top of my head i think of him as one but... he fuckin is. hes one of the best wrestlers in aew. hes a character guy who also happens to be amazing. thats the real. its not ~about~ having great matches, he just has them. thats what i want

There are so many things that get labeled as 'WWE style' that are just basic wrestling tropes. Outside interference, dominant babyfaces, ref bumps, countout/DQ finishes, all of that stuff was a regular part of wrestling before Vinnie Jr took over the World Wide Wrestling Federation.
