I've worked most closely on the Higher Education budget, but it's a perfect example.
We have a completed budget - we did Monday night. We had time to pass it and send it to the Gov, but the R House Chair refused because she wanted to hold it hostage over an unrelated process issue. #mnleg
By contrast, two years ago, when the only difference was a DFL majority in the House, we had spending targets in March and passed a complete budget by the end of the session - the first time that had happened in a decade. #mnleg
22.05.2025 16:39 β π 4 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0The February forecast came out March 6th (yes, a little later than usual). Because Rs were so hell bent on shutting down Paid Family/Medical Leave, Earned Sick/Safe Time, health care for undocumented neighbors and so much more, we didn't get an agreement on spending targets until May 14th. #mnleg
22.05.2025 16:38 β π 3 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0The most important job #mnleg has this year is to pass a budget. Without doing that, MN state government can't do the things Minnesotans need and people will get laid off.
Rs have held up passing a budget at every step over unrelated and unpopular policies that they couldn't get in negotiations.
In the five weeks that Republicans basically had a majority - a time when they could move whatever they wanted without DFL support - we passed exactly *six* bills.
*Nine* bills failed to pass because they didn't have DFL support. #mnleg
Republicans are going to talk a lot of about DFLers denying quorum for three weeks because Republicans wanted to kick out a member who actually won his election.
What they won't talk a lot about is the *five* weeks when they basically had a majority and we didn't do shit. #mnleg
(And a lot of other things.)
22.05.2025 03:18 β π 2 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0Minnesota House Republicans are fighting to cut disability services and keep cuts away from the nursing home industry. Meanwhile, House Republicans in D.C. are voting to cut Medicaid, which pays for..wait for it ..nursing homes.
22.05.2025 03:05 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 1 π 1Today, a new economic forecast confirmed that Donald Trumpβs policies are already moving Minnesotaβs economy and state budget in the wrong direction.

My friend Jamie sent this Ezra Klein video my way. He told me that a friend had sent it to him and it gave him hope.

Email. Call
Call or email your state rep or Senator to ask them: 1) what are they doing to protect Minnesotans private information, e.g. from unelected private individuals like Musk and 2) when will they have a town hall meeting to update their constituents? Calls will remind our reps we will be watching them.
08.02.2025 18:11 β π 23 π 13 π¬ 4 π 1MN is proud to help feed the world (in fact, this program was created by Hubert Humphrey). Now not only is that in jeopardy, but millions of dollars in income for farmers is too? Disgusting.
This food, which weβve already paid for, is waiting on ships to be delivered to those who need it.
Everyone should listen to this. "Don't believe him."
We need to understand the Trump strategy to respond effectively.
A little light reading for the weekend!

I will not give in to the lies. I will not give into the fear. Post it on your social media so people can hear from you too.
Pass it on.
It has been 60 years since Minnesota experienced as little crime as it did in 2024. For the vast majority of people alive in Minnesota last year was the safest of their lives.
Keep this in mind when politicians in upcoming elections attempt to use fear to get you to vote for them!
As we enter Day 3 of this #mnleg House Republican coup/sham, just wondering if anyone has actually asked them why they think itβd be OK to just throw out a legislator who fairly won his election.
16.01.2025 16:03 β π 9 π 6 π¬ 1 π 0Democrats have filed a lawsuit with the Minnesota Supreme Court to invalidate Republicansβ unlawful, unconstitutional actions. Their sham sessions have no legal authority, and the actions they are taking have no legal effect. www.kare11.com/article/news...
