Side note: I visited La Brea tar pits a couple years ago. Great museum! And, while the tar pits themselves are fenced off, there were a few small spots where tar had welled up in public areas. I was disappointed I didn't have my copy of the book to baptize it with a bit of tar.

A CNC machine bed with a piece of aluminum tube. There's a hole in the tube with a ragged edge, where the workpiece slipped. And there's the tip of the broken bit laying next to it.

E-stop Saturday: My workpiece holding failed me. I broke a bit in the CNC.

Embedded Rust update: a couple nights ago, I added code to my async task to configure the imu with an i2c write. And, last night, I made an async polling loop to read data back when it's ready. Next steps should be to organize the code so the imu has its own module.

It's absolutely unbelievable how much damage this admin is doing. And as you point out, the savings have almost nothing to do with it. It's just eradicating science and education.

Baby steps, I know, but I feel that complexity and productivity go up fast once these fundamental hurdles are cleared.

I achieved another embedded Rust milestone yesterday: I created a fresh project, instead of starting from an example, and got an i2c read to work in an async task. This is with the ESP32C3.

After working through button input and interrupt exercises, I went out of the training module to look into embassy. That turned out to be pretty simple so now i have an async main task that blinks and awaits on a timer. Yay!

It's been a hello world kind of day, once again. I got a blinky to run with Rust, no-std, on an ESP32C3. I got this working about a year ago with std but didn't use it for anything then. Now I'm hearing that no-std might be better supported on this platform and I want to use Embassy this time.
