MISLEADING: A new academic paper by @qmul.bsky.social has attracted significant media attention by claiming that EVs & heat pumps deliver no proven carbon savings in UK ahead of 2030 clean power target - and should therefore be postponed.

Here is why this paper should never have been published.🧡

If you were trying to come up with more harmful guidance towards trans and non-binary young people you would be hard pressed to find it. The fact it is backed by Cass shows how wrong it is.
We are already seeing an increase in suicide rates among trans young people.

Gladys Mae West obituary: mathematician who pioneered GPS technology She made key contributions to US cold-war science despite facing huge barriers as a Black woman.

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientistβ€”because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...

I'd say immigration and equality have been his weakest areas. The relentless attacks on migrants and trans people make me never consider Labour to vote for ever again.

Of self-driving cars, and the non-existence of jaywalking Also this week: the unexpected indeterminacy of rivers; and a barcode map of the UK.

"But surely the biggest issue is we simply have a different legal relationship with our streets from that of almost any major US city. It’s not so much that jaywalking is legal here, as that it’s an entirely non-existent concept."

Dozens of Labour MPS threaten rebellion over Mahmood migration crackdown Under new rules, migrants would have to wait at least 10 years to apply for indefinite leave to remain

Labour's changes to immigration rules, including potentially applying them retroactively, would be some of the most draconian anti-immigration policies in decades. They're the hostile environment on speed.
This is pure cruelty as policy, with absolutely no merit to them

Curious to give India (99.x % electrification) as an example for a country with a "large, barely electrified network". But otherwise a realistic assessment of the future of H2 trains in most of Europe.

Welsh Government has just released road casualty stats for the Jul-Sep 2025 qtr. For urban/village 20/30mph casualties are 33% lower (420) than the same qtr in 2023 (627) before the default 20mph limit was set. More evidence that default 20mph is a life-enhancing and life-saving initiative.

Switzerland did have number plates on bikes up to 2011, but they were proof of insurance, not identification. They stopped it, because everybody had public liability anyways and the costs exceeded the benefits de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fahrrad...

UK PEOPLE: this is REALLY IMPORTANT. If the government bans under-16s from using VPNs, then logically they must intend to REQUIRE AGE VERIFICATION FOR ALL VPN USE. Which will affect adults too!
