The group looked at similarities and differences from Nicosia's Green Line to the peace wall here in Belfast. As they heard from the UN and local peace activists the question was posed;
What is the real cause of division - the walls we physically see, or the walls in our minds?

The Wall2Wall group spent their first day in Cyprus being welcomed into the last divided capital in Europe!
They crossed peace barriers that split one community from another, something that resonates all too well with young people from NI.

👉 Met the Irish Ambassador, young people from Pyla participating in a bi-communal project and 2 members from the newly established youth committee in Cyprus

👉Visited Varosha, The Abandoned City in Cyprus.

👉Met with UN Peacekeepers, heard about their role in the conflict and took a tour of Ledra Palace

👉Took part in a seminar with Greek and Turkish Cypriot academics highlighting the history and context of Cyprus

PowerUp youth advisory group have had a spectacular week so far in Cyprus. They have been embracing their studies abroad with a jam packed schedule, leaning into the lessons and experiences of the trip.

We look forward to hearing more insights from PowerUp’s study of international peace building, and how they will integrate this learning into their work back home.

The group got straight to action with a walking tour of the city, the last divided capital in Europe. They crossed the UN Buffer zone that divides the island, explored incredible historical landmarks and listened to stories of division and reconciliation. A huge first day for everyone!

HeadStart participants recently paid a visit to The People' s Kitchen Belfast to learn more about how the organisation supports people in the city dealing with homelessness. The group came together to build packs of essential items to donate upon their visit for those in need.

Our Directions group had an informative visit to the Crumlin Road Gaol today. One of the group commented, "It's hard to face this part of our history sometimes, but after today I do feel like it's important to acknowledge. It wasn't that long ago this gaol was in use."

Led by our inspiring youth advisory group, the day was packed with workshops, honest discussion and a Wellbeing Zone full of support, resources and activities. From acupuncture to mindfulness, young people explored new ways to look after their mental health and connect with each other.

👏 In May over 180 young people came together for PowerUp’s youth panel event at the @Shankill Women's Centre diving into powerful conversations on mental health and wellbeing.
