A hemispherical cup with a round base and a single loop handle, displayed on a narrow metal stand. The handle is on the left in my photo. The cup was carved from a single piece of Baltic amber about 3,500 years ago. The amber is a translucent deep burnt-orange colour, which glows as it catches the light, resembling burning embers of a fire. About half an inch from the rim, a band of incised parallel grooves encircle the body of the cup, except for under the handle. There are two chips on the rim. Cup dimensions: height 2.5 inches, depth 2.4 inches, external diameter 3.5 inches.

A megalithic tomb consisting of a large mossy capstone supported by upright stones, under the shelter of an autumnal tree in Ireland

The Gaulstown Dolmen • Waterford

This Neolithic portal tomb known as the Gaulstown Dolmen likely dates to around 3800–3400 BC.

It is beautifully set in an atmospheric glade at the foot of a hill known as Cnoc na Cailligh (the Hill of the Witch).

My photo shows a Roman ink writing tablet (tablet no. 343) made up of four wafer thin, square-shaped leaves (pieces) of wood displayed two above two. The tablet is dark brown in colour against a cream display mount. All four leaves are covered with cursive Latin text written with carbon ink. On the outer edge of each leaf there are notches and holes so they could be tied together. Dated c. 104-120 AD.

My photo shows a cast of the so-called Dame de Brassempouy, a small figurine carved from mammoth ivory around 25,000 years ago, during the Upper Paleolithic period. Dimensions: Height 3.6 cm x Length 1.9 cm x Depth 2.2 cm. This cast is on display at the Musée d'Archéologie Nationale Saint-Germain-en-Laye. The museum displays the original in the Piette Room, with visits by reservation only. Here is the museum description: The “Lady with the Hood” or “Dame de Brassempouy” is the most famous and most moving of prehistoric works of art, as she brings us the most real and lifelike image of Palaeolithic woman.   The techniques used to make this statuette are very complex and achieve great visual qualities: incisions for the chequerboard pattern and the facial features, perforation for the pupil of the eyes, scraping and polishing to model the face.   This “first human face”, sculpted from the ivory core of a mammoth tusk, is very striking. It is sub-triangular in shape and well balanced. The forehead, eyebrows, nose and chin are in relief. The only visible part of the eyes is the pupil, particularly the one on the right.

About 25,000 years ago, this small figurine was beautifully carved from mammoth ivory. The ‘Lady of Brassempouy’ is one of the earliest representations of a human face! 🤯

Unser Studiengang "Regenerative Energien" hat eine TOP-Platzierung beim CHE-Ranking erreicht. Wir haben noch jede Menge freie Studienplätze, während die Branche händeringend Fachkräfte sucht.
Also: Regenerative Energien an der HTW Berlin studieren, um die Welt besser zu machen. Gerne weitersagen.

From an elite female burial which contained six of these bronze frames mounted with glass beads. It’s thought the beads originate from Slovenia, an early production centre. Early blue glass imitated the luxury semi-precious stone lapis lazuli.
