Happy to participate in the “German-Baltic Conference” yesterday! Organized by the German-Baltic Future Foundation, this year’s conference focusses on security issues & the important role of young people. It was great to continue the discussion at a reception in the 🇩🇪 Embassy.

Around 12.500 students from 87 countries study at Rīgas Stradiņa universitāte (RSU), including aprx. 520 from 🇩🇪. I was delighted to visit RSU this week and talk to the students. Thank you very much for the interesting insight and good luck with your studies!

It was a great honor to meet 🇱🇻combat medic Sarmīte Cīrule today. She is in Riga for couple of days & meets with supporters to discuss needs on the front lines. 🇱🇻civil society is making a major contribution to supporting🇺🇦.Glad that colleagues from the Embassy are also contributing to this support.

A special moment: Dr. Haseloff presented a copy of Martin Luther's 1525 letter to the Latvian National Library, symbolizing a 500-year-old connection. Did you know the first book in Latvian was printed in Wittenberg, Saxony-Anhalt?

Minister-President of Saxony-Anhalt, Dr. Reiner Haseloff, visited Riga this week to intensify the strong cooperation between Federal State of Saxony-Anhalt and Latvia. Meetings with the 🇱🇻Minister of Culture and Minister of Economics highlighted the deep collaboration between 🇱🇻🇩🇪.

🇩🇪 is going to fulfill the 5% of GDP commitment to NATO while continuing the strong support of 🇺🇦, State Secretary Hartmann stated very clearly. The panel underlined the  urgent need for coordinated measures against the hybrid threat and ongoing provocations from Russia.

That was our 35th Day of 🇩🇪German Unity in Riga! We celebrated it with many wonderful encounters, authentic Berlin club sounds, and a party that lasted until the early hours of the morning. Many thanks to everyone for coming and celebrating with us! It was a pleasure.

A special moment was visiting Ziegler Maschinenbau, a German company excelling in sustainable production for a large European market since 1990s. The trip concluded with a cultural touch at the Rothko Museum. Hoping to be back soon!

Discussions at the University of Daugavpils and the Latgale Industrial Technical School highlighted the importance of German as a foreign language. Impressed to learn about long-standing connections to Germany through student exchange programmes.

Very impressed by Daugavpils and its manifold ties to🇩🇪! Delighted to visit this city with Ulrike Würz from Goethe-Institut Riga & to present 🇩🇪Language Diplomas (Level I) to talented students at the Daugavpils State Gymnasium. We were impressed by outstanding 🇩🇪 skills.

It was a privilege to discuss today with Baiba Braže, Dalia Grybauskaitė, Ali Aslan and Eric Beranger the challenges of establishing a new European security order. Europe must deliver speed and scale in strengthening its defence. We have no time to lose. #WSF2025
