One part that stood out is the inclusion of methane as an area for enhanced cooperation, which was also part of a recent UK-China MoU on climate. China is clearly aiming to demonstrate progress on methane in light of US climate retreat. But how it includes methane in its NDC will be a litmus test.

The EU-China #climate statement is somewhat milquetoast, but it’s still significant. That the two economies have“broad space for cooperation in the field of green transition” is noteworthy given it is also the root of their trade tensions — as is their commitment to “drive a global just transition.”
