We recently welcomed a new furry friend to our family. It's been a big change for him but he seems to be settling in quickly. Here he is on neighbourhood watch duty (self-appointed). #Caturday

I've listed a range of open edition prints on my Etsy store, carefully selected from my archive. After much research and testing, I've found a print-on-demand supplier to work with which means I can offer these at affordable prices, including framing options ☺️ www.etsy.com/shop/joshmur...

Pete Gardner - view from this side personal work

A random recommendation for this late evening: the photography of Pete Gardner. I found his work on Flickr some time ago. Brilliant work observing urban places and spaces, light, forms and textures. Like a massage for the eyes. petegardner.co.uk/copy-of-pick...

Somehow I managed to distill hundreds of photos from a trip to Portugal into a handful of images for a new gallery on my site: joshmurfitt.co.uk/portugal

I used almost exclusively a telephoto lens on this trip. Perfect for picking out details in the landscape.

Indeed - I think a lot of people probably stop there for photos! I like your angle on it though, especially with the fog.

Thanks Laurens. The colour version has a mixture of cool and warm tones which I find quite distracting. In mono it’s all about the light and shadow.

A photo from January last year that I didn’t post at the time. It didn’t really work in colour, but I found it again and tried this monochrome version, which I like much more.

Reflections on the Union Canal, Edinburgh. I like how the subtle movement of the water warped the straight lines of the block of flats, so they look almost like a bad AI render (in a completely natural and somehow pleasing way). Also, that light does wonders for colour.

I might present a serious artist persona on social media most of the time, but behind the scenes I'm mainly watching funny animal videos.

I absolutely adore trompe l'oeil paintings of printed images, & here's one of my absolute favorites: The Printseller's Window, 1883, by little-known English artist Walter Goodman, a pictorial meditation on modern image culture & photography's impact on painting magart.rochester.edu/objects-1/in...

I think it depends what you’re doing. If you’re a professional product photographer for example, you might want absolute sharpness and high resolution detail. But if you’re an artist, anything goes.

Also, I worry a lot less about high ISO noise these days as the reduction software has got so good.

A photographer who needs no introduction from me, but if you're not already following her, I'd recommend doing so for some spectacular and beautiful images of water.

Here's the print I made from that Toyobo plate recently. It's gritty and imperfect but I think I'm OK with that...

There are few things in the world I find more relaxing than looking out over the sea (or, failing that, any large body of water). Of course, it’s not just the sea; it’s birds, and seaweed-air, and islands and lighthouses, and the horizon, and all the other good things that go with it.

I think both work but yes the extra yellow and the contrasting green of those weeds at the bottom is a nice extra detail.
