Dr Hipwell raises concerns about access to single sex spaces for trans people. We know that for many years, transgender men and women have been able to use facilities of their chosen gender and the Government has no interest in curtailing this. However, the Government believes that the protection of single-sex spaces, as provided for in the Equality Act, is important. We reiterated in the recent GRA announcement that the Equality Act provides crucial protections for single-sex spaces and makes it clear that providers have the right to restrict the use of spaces on the basis of sex, and exclude transgender people, with or without a Gender Recognition Certificate, if this is justified. I believe that this strikes the right balance. Dr Hipwell also raises concerns about long waiting times for Gender Identity Services. We are taking meaningful action to address the historic problems that have resulted in long waiting times. Your constituent may like to know that NHS England have increased funding in specialised gender services by around 50% over the last few years. They will establish at least three new gender identity clinics over 2020/21, with the first of these opened by the Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust in July. This is the first service of its kind established in the NHS in England for around 20 years. The opening of these new clinics will lead to a reduction of around 1,600 patients waiting by 2022. The increases in clinical capacity will lead to greater patient choice, shorter waiting times, better geographical coverage and easier access. I hope this information is helpful. Yours sincerely Kemi Badenoch
Did I ever post up the letter I got from Kemi Badenoch in 2020?
The one where she says the Tory government had no interest in curtailing the use of gendered spaces by transgender people?
I think I did not.
Perfect! 😂😂😂
