Of course as Jim writes, Springer probably would have still been a useful trade chip with his recent rebound. That would differentiate him from every other Sox position player from that brief contention era.

Think it’s also fair to say if the Sox were willing to do things differently in a way where they seriously pursued Harper or Springer, they’re probably doing other things differently so they don’t careen from the peak of their contention window directly to a modern futility record.
