One of the dumbest mistakes North America ever made, and continues to make, is doing so relatively little with trains. Train networks are nation-building.

The middle section of the kiln, before we seal up the door. There’s stacks of carefully placed pots on hollow shelves.
Here I am stoking the kiln. A person in a heavy carhart jacket and face shield is pushing wood into a firebox at face height. The glow of the fire is reflected on the shield.
I’m carefully sealing up ports on the kiln while my mom nervously helps. The kiln about 15ft long, built out of bricks.
We just finished up the 6th firing of my train kiln. It was a delight. It was also a lot. I knew that the one thing my 80yr old mother wanted for her birthday was to come help, so she did!
