Start a new library of Anglican classics. Affordable but sturdy volumes, like the Loebs. New, up-to-date editions of Andrewes’s sermons, Taylor’s Holy Living, Hooker’s Lawes, etc. Like Davenant or Seminary St Press, but more prolific, and all in gilt-edged hardcover.

Don’t get me wrong, Creation compels me to awe and worship all the time. I am moved to say the Benedicite every time I summit a mountain in the Adirondacks. But I don’t reckon I would have responded that way without having had a Bible and a parish back home first.

I mean this with respect, but can a raven proclaim the Gospel? Or administer communion? Pray for the dead? The Church is the handmaiden of God. Christ came as a man. I’d argue that Creation at-large only takes on an evangelical valence when we are trained to see it by faith.

Hey, gang. Friendly reminder to try and say the Litany today as part of Morning Prayer. Say it with someone. With all that might loom over the head and the heart today, we could all use a mighty big drink of prayer.

Again, seconded. You could spend a year in the wilderness admiring great beaut, but you might never encounter God. Certainly you would never know His character.

Yes! Creation reflects the glory of God, but neither Christ nor the prophets taught us pantheism. God and His Creation are distinct, and that is a good thing.

Political violence is bad. It usually begets more political violence.

Celebrating political violence is bad. It usually encourages more political violence, against various targets.

Campus shootings are bad. They make everyone on campus less safe.

It's bad that what I wrote here is controversial.

I’ve missed you too! And many others. That’s why I’m sticking around. I’m like Substack for now, though. And real life off the internet. Forgot how fun that place is.

A tad elaborate and Marian for my tastes, but still, what a beautiful altar. That painting in the middle panel is 15th century, according to the plaque. @flinthill.bsky.social just celebrated a small but serene communion here about an hour ago. Our cathedral in Buffalo is an under-appreciated gem.

Oh, that one’s easy—it means all the stuff I like, in contrast to “Protestant,” which means all the stuff I don’t (🤦‍♂️)

That’s factually worse than the answer I usually hear, yet it somehow is far more pleasing

Can we as Anglicans suspend using the term “via media” until we all agree what the heck it actually means.

If you come in here and say “it means between Rome and Geneva,” I will block you and mail you an envelope full of glitter.

Does anyone know of any Anglican Church of Canada parishes along the Niagara Frontier that do 1962 BCP communion on Sundays? My wife and I are going over there for our first anniversary next weekend, and I’d like to find somewhere that does a traditional service.

Sorry I haven’t posted much for the last month, folks. The more I take breaks from this platform, the more I realize how much I actually dislike it (much as I came to dislike Twitter, even before Musk spoiled it). So I doubt I will be active here much here on out, but I will still be here!

On this Transfiguration of our Lord, the 2nd lesson at Morning Prayer is 2 Corinthians 3, concluding with the Apostle declaring "we all ... are changed into the same image from glory to glory".

In his commentary on the passage, Calvin describes "this restoration":

By thy gift, O Lord, we are set on fire, and are borne aloft: we burn, and we are on the way. We climb the ascents that are in the heart. With thy fire, with thy good fire, we burn and go on, for we go up to the peace of Jerusalem.
