25.02.2025 00:46 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Jim Simon (1950-) Jim Simon began his career working on backgrounds at Paramount Animation and later worked with Ralph Bakshi as an assistant animator on Spider-Man (1967). Simon became a freelance animator and approached Children's Television Workshop (now Sesame Workshop) to create shorts for Sesame Street. While his portfolio was impressive, they told him he needed to own his own studio. With a loan of $250 from friends, he founded Wantu Animation, which was pretty much just him.
One of Wantu's first shorts was "I Can Remember" (Jim Simon, 1972), a memorable short made for Sesame Street about a little Black girl running an errand for her mother. Generations of fans can still recite the shopping list by heart: A loaf of bread, a container of milk, and a stick of butter. Often imitated, but never duplicated. And still memorable to this day.
"Hey Diddie-Diddle" (1975), an award-winning short made by Jim Simon for The Electric Company about a quartet of cats (an orange heavy-set cat on the piano, a pair of purple lady cats with big bushy tails, and a thin blue cat playing a fiddle) singing about double Ds in words. Classy and catchy.
The Soul Train from Soul Train. While Leo D. Sullivan originally animated the intro to "the hippest trip in the land," it was Jim Simon's memorable redesign and animation that made the Soul Train truly iconic to generations.
You ought to know Jim Simon, a prolific animator who founded Wantu Animation and created shorts for The Electric Company and Sesame Street (including the iconic "I Can Remember)" the 2nd, more familiar take of the eponymous Soul Train, and titles for Vegetable Soup (1975).

If thatβs your process, thatβs your process Β―\_(γ)_/Β―
