To put this into perspective how bad this is: With 8 dead and 1 missing and presumably dead, this one event is nearly half the total number of people (23) killed in avalanches across the U.S. during the 2024-2025 season, and three times the number (3) killed in the Tunnel Creek avalanche in 2012.

I imagine we're going to hear a lot more about this, both because of the number of casualties and the fact that it happened on a guided trip.
