"The Black Vampyre; Legend of St. Domingo" by Uriah Derick D'Arcy written in 1819.

The story of an enslaved man in St Domingo (modern day Haiti) who was thrown overboard as his enslaver attempted to kill him.

He not only survives, he lives forever, and marries one of his enslaver's descendants.

Reminds me of "Sinners" in a way

Wanna hear a scary story?

The first American vampire was Black.

Seriously.

78 years before Dracula appeared in American literature, there was "The Black Vampyre" by Uriah D'Arcy.

It was written in 1819 as an antislavery critique and the effect the Haitian Revolution had on the States

Indigenous horror may seem new to many, but it is ancient. It is born from stories that carry lessons, warnings, and survival through generations. What is new is seeing those stories retake their rightful space in the contemporary horror landscape.

Doctor: And how are your stress levels?
Me: ...personally or with the world?
Doctor: Every single one of my patients says that. I think we should add a tick box for moral unrest.

Reading: WE CALL THEM WITCHES (Netgalley ARC). Post apocalyptic horror pitched as a sapphic melding of Stephen King + T. Kingfisher

Listening: THE LAMB
I guess this October’s horror theme is cannibalism (but make it lesbian)

Lucy Undying by Kiersten White. A pale woman in a puffy crimson dress twists to face the viewer. Blood is smeared on her neck, and in the waves of her loose blonde hair, you can make out the impression of snarling wolves.

A Long Time Dead by Samara Breger. A pale woman averts her gaze from the viewer. She wears a black dress and lots of heavy jewellery. Her red hair is piled into a bouffant updo, contrasting the green foliage in the background. A drop of blood spills over her lip.

I get it, but foodbanks are a good thing. It is a centralized location(s) for many grocery stores to give unsold spoiling food one last chance to be consumed. Organized dumpster diving. There is NO shame in keeping food from the garbage.

Also, a foodbank reduces waste. Foodbank users are heroes that use up spoiling perishables. Like organized dumpster diving.

Everyone deserves food, healthcare, housing and an education.

They shouldn’t have to β€œprove they matter” to access basic support.

They shouldn’t be forced to justify their β€œworth” to have a chance at survival.

This shouldn’t be up for debate.

We have enough to help everyone.

No matter one's opinion, nearly every American will feel the ripple effect of billions taken out of ALL local economies. Higher prices, store closures and layoffs, and possibly more theft. Money spent on other things shift to food.

Reminder that 40% of SNAP recipients are children. Adults must meet work requirements or provide a doctor's statement of disability after a few months of emergency benefits. To say any beneficiaries are "lazy" is inaccurate and cruel.

The "you get what you vote for" Dems can fuck off forever.

Please donate money to foodbanks over purchasing food to donate.

Also, leave that ramen/pasta right where it is - no one wants it. If you really want to be a hero, then donate coffee.

Old Soul by Susan Barker. Unsettling & sinister testimonies of lives torn apart over the years & across the world by an ageless woman. She takes their photo, they die with their organs & features mirrored. Plot is focused more on the destructive reverberations of the woman’s unnatural existence πŸ©ΈπŸ“šπŸ’™
