also not for nothing (and I say this as someone who is guilty of it) the public PERFORMANCE of backlash on social media, of following the crowd and joining in on something from passive social pressure to demonstrate that you, too, have the Correct Opinion... that's how they weaponize you.

Yeah, it's a PATTERN. It happens to everyone who gets backlash online to *some* degree, but it scales EXPONENTIALLY with marginalization, to the point that it becomes straight up materially dangerous. It can kill people. It has killed people. And bigots use it as a weapon.
