I hope so but the government holds all the levers in terms of funding for the recall efforts and even changing the legislation itself so I’m not optimistic even if I think it’s worth trying.

At least my echocardiogram today was quick. If I die at any point during this government please dump my body in front of my MLA’s office with a sign referencing their killing of trans rights.

Got on a Momentum organizing call. Very depressing to hear their thoughts that we’ve already lost the fight on bill 9 but I don’t disagree. They suggest the best hope is to organize for the next election and absent the kind of mass action I keep posting about I’m forced to agree with that too.

My proposal is that enough of us get together at the legislature while it’s in session and refuse to leave until 2 and 9 are repealed and refuse to let the politicians leave too and maybe burn a few UCP flags because it’s cold. I don’t think the government will change for anything less.

It's not enough. This government is malicious and out to cause harm. No amount of public pressure can force them to do anything if they view anyone other than their base as the enemy.

If a government removes life-saving care from children with no recourse, some of them will die. At what point is it morally required for us to march to the legislature and set things on fire?

Alberta uses Notwithstanding Clause to perpetuate unprecedented Attack on Trans Rights. Today, the Government of Alberta has introduced Bill 9 which uses the notwithstanding clause to restrict the rights of Two-Spirit, trans and gender diverse people in the province. This legislation is brought days ahead of Trans Day of Remembrance - a day meant to honour the lives lost to anti-trans violence. Doing so is not only cruel but a direct form of institutional violence against trans communities. This law reaches into nearly every part of a young person's life and restricts their access to health care, ability to learn, and right to participate in their communities. This is not theoretically of ideological - Behind every policy are real young people and families who's rights, sense of belonging, and very safety are being eroded by our very government.

I have calmed myself by sending some emails advocating, but I remain very trepidatious about tomorrow. I guess I don’t really think Albertans will stand up for trans rights in sufficient numbers after they didn’t all the other times. Maybe there isn’t even a sufficient number for this government.

When a government is out to specifically cause harm to a minority group, and they appear able to avoid any kind of oversight, what moral opposition choices remain? If people are denied life-saving care, some will die.

When the UCP uses the notwithstanding clause tomorrow, watch defenders say, "it's totally legal" or "we had no choice."

They're deflecting.

The UCP wants to exact as much harm on transgender folks as possible. And they know their actions are not justifiable in a democratic society.

According to TransAction Alberta, next week the UCP will use the notwithstanding clause preemptively for their anti-trans laws. My MLA's office claimed "no knowledge" of it when I called but I expect they'll limit debate again. Very upset. There's still time to set stuff on fire.
