Also where he was 2 weeks ago. So...no evidence yet that passing an unpopular bill helps him.

Long term, even medium term, I entirely agree. A short-term bump though was/is plausible. Especially because of that magical thinking. If he doesn't even get that...

very short term i could see it too. but even here i'm skeptical in part because i think elite opinion is actually underestimating or not fully absorbing the depth of unpopularity we're seeing for a lot of policies in the polls themselves. which makes me think even short term blips may not be there

Yep. There simply has been too little in that bill that could be promoted as addressing broader electorate concerns, and most of the politicians promoting it didn’t even try (think Vance calling everything except ICE funding minutiae). No relief for inflation-driven price increases.
