Keepin' it pretentious in Midtown Sacto. Dogs, bikes, composting, energy policy, woodworking, reading the whole of the article, California secession, toast done on one side.

I think there should be more attention on the fact this was a coordinated attack on Kimmel by the FCC and by Trump's corporate pals. That close cooperation between authoritarian government and lapdog corporations has a precedent in history I believe.

I love this initiative, and I think this principle is something we need to extend to the whole community. Unless people have a purpose and some hope, they're likely to fall prey to people like Trump and Kirk. We fight back with community building, not by sinking to their level.

What the hell happened to Ezra Klein? Ten years ago he was reliably insightful, but now it's like listening fo David Brooks. It's like "here's where the middle would be, if there were a middle".

Arrghh!! I'm so stoked about this. He was absolutely amazing! I hope he doesn't get typecast into scary roles!

Apparently, this is what Republicans think emotional sincerity sounds like. I wonder how much a lack of parental attention during childhood is responsible for the way they turned out.

What makes you think he never said it? It's widely available online. Kirk describes stoning gays as "God's perfect law".

I'm not much of a fan of the EU parliament, but they do live by their values. It's good to see people refusing to kowtow to pressure to venerate fascists. bsky.app/profile/lore...

America was created by lying about trans people? I find that confusing.

They're pretending to mourn because that's an excellent cover for calling for violence. They're invoking religion as a cover for persecuting others. Nevermind that it's not possible for a human to experience that toxic cocktail of emotions at the same time. Everything on the right is performative.

You only consider that a "mistake" if you haven't really been paying attention.

I'll circulate this to all my friends who thought that Biden pardoning Fauci was an exaggerated needless gesture.

Makes sense. If they're drinking they can't be watching Fox News.

I don't get it. What is this about?

Where can I get that t-shirt....? I don't see it in the MDA store.

I think it's a consequence of chronically relying on a legal system to be our backstop. It's a bad strategy because the legal system can't adapt to changing needs. It would be better to have a more vigorous democracy, a more powerful legislature with the ability to check executive power.

I totally agree. This moment reminds me of when the UK tories were toppled by "sleaze" (i.e. corruption, laziness and low standards of conduct) before Blair won in 1997.

Aha! That makes perfect sense. I was wondering whether it might be because the US ones are made from reconstituted potato or something.

My favorite part of going back to the UK is always my first chip buttie made with real chips. The "steak fries" here in the US aren't as good--they tend to have a weird hard outside and be too fluffy inside.

In case anyone's wondering, no this EO won't affect anything. Showerhead standards are firmly enshrined in law, both federally and at the state level. And even if he could, nobody makes high flow shower heads anymore.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say the funding will restart after Trump has squeezed what he can out of Columbia and the other universities.

ICE agents know that what they're doing is wrong. They should be held criminally accountable once this is over.

It sure would be easier to fund that if we didn't send our taxes to Washington.

I agree a focus on school routes would be effective. In the US, for most people there are either no scary intersections between their home and school, or just one. Doing something about those problem intersections could be effective, but that needs more political effort than bollards and paint do.

I checked recently and couldn't find any, but let me know if you have a citation.

Their intersections are nothing like the ones we have in the US. We have high speed six-lane roads in residential neighborhoods. Those roads are a huge part of the reason why our roadway fatality rate is so much higher than Europe's.

Agreed, but there's no evidence that separated paths lead to fewer crashes than other kinds of bike path.

09.04.2025 14:14 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

They'd still be empty then too. They're empty because people live too far from where they work and other destinations, and because our intersections are too big to navigate on a bike. Separated facilities are a bandaid that solves no problem. They're a great source of money for consultants though.

I want to know why more reporters aren't pushing back on the idea that tariffs are "reciprocal", and the regime's totally fictitious numbers about how high foreign tariffs are.

I agree in theory, but in practice that doesn't seem to be what's happening.
