On the night of January 18, 1958, a group of Ku Klux Klan supporters gathered near Hayes Mill Pond in Maxton. Led by James β€œCatfish” Cole, the rally was part of an ongoing attempt to intimidate the Lumbee Indians of Robeson County. A larger group made up of Native Americans from the county and the surrounding area, descended on the gathering and confronted the group. Massively outnumbered, the Klan supporters fled from the field and from that area of North Carolina permanently. Surprisingly, no one on either side was killed. Popularly dubbed in the press as the β€œBattle of Hayes Pond,” the event triggered national media coverage of the Lumbee struggle and of white supremacist activity in North Carolina.

It's a good day to remember the "Battle of Hayes Pond", when a group of Lumbee and other American Indians chased the KKK out of their community. Stand up to bullies and they turn tail and run.

Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts.

Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.

All told, the picture is one of a consistent, if unacknowledged, libertarian eugenics.
The high-tech fertility market privileges those able to pay for genetic advantage.
The retreat of public health abandons the social minimum needed to ensure that all children can survive and thrive. And immigration policy redraws the body politic along racial lines, achieving by exclusion what mid-century welfare states once sought through inclusion.

What emerges is not a paradox but a 21st-century return of social Darwinism, wrapped in a language of choice, freedom and national greatness.

The elimination of USAID was an unforgivable moral atrocity that should haunt Trump, Elon Musk and Marco Rubio for the rest of their days and beyond

To my daughter
who never accepted a pacifier
when she needed milk, or
milk when she needed
to be held, or
being held when she needed
to be free:
I hope you stay loud

I’m positive you all saw the video from Coeur d’Alene, where a woman was pulled out of her seat and arrested by men who claimed to be sheriff deputies, but were not in uniform.

I need the men to do something: When you see a woman being abused, step in. Step up. Get in the way. Put your body to use.

It’s loan forgiveness. Not loan transfer to public. And only after 20 years of payments AND work in public service. It’s all interest payments to loan services. Let’s keep it real here.
