Why I Left The National Weather Service - What Comes Next?
YouTube video by Breaking The Fog Why I Left The National Weather Service - What Comes Next?

Hiding is the last thing we need to do during the rise of fascism. My name is Hunter Reeves and I am no longer working for the National Weather Service. I resigned over a month ago.

This video explains more. I'll be posting to this channel and leaving this account as an archive. See you over there!

RememberΒ this: Try.

RememberΒ that. And know this, the day will come when all these skirmishes and battles, these moments of defiance will have flooded the banks of the Empires’s authority and then there will be one too many. One single thing will break the siege.

AndΒ rememberΒ this: the Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.

RememberΒ that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

RememberΒ this, Freedom is a pure idea. It occurs spontaneously and without instruction. Random acts of insurrection are occurring constantly throughout the galaxy. There are whole armies, battalions that have no idea that they’ve already enlisted in the cause.

There will be times when the struggle seems impossible. I know this already. Alone, unsure, dwarfed by the scale of the enemy.

Decorum is out the door. These people need to be held accountable through any means necessary. It won't stop until they are.

Organize. Get involved. Build community. Focus on your skills. Exercise regularly. And check in on one another.

It's here. It's happening. And civility isn't going to cut it anymore. Decorum be damned. The rebellion against the Empire had to defend themselves, and so do we. America has had to defend itself against tyranny before. We'll do it again. #try

Interesting headline choice. Do you think it tells the full story? Centrist slop isn't going to cut it anymore. Is Reuters compromised?

Lutnick points to tech modernization plans as lawmakers question NWS staffing levels Modernizing technology, centralizing data, and automation were among plans floated by Lutnick in response to bipartisan concern over National Weather Service staffing.

"It is fake news and inappropriate to suggest a single meteorologist or hydrologist was fired."

Tell that to the people who were illegally fired then, Howard Lutnick.

"Bipartisan effort."

If someone deliberately punched you in the face and then apologized, would you accept the apology?

Sorry for the hiatus everyone, there has been so much severe weather over the last several months for our agency and it's been incredibly busy. It is so hard to find time to get on here. Please know we are still fighting, we're still here. We're so understaffed and pulling regular 12-16 hour shifts.

NOAA warns staff a militia group thinks its radars are 'weather weapons' NOAA radar stations are reportedly being targeted by an armed conspiracy group that views them as weapons.

Our field is no stranger to the conspiracy theorists who think we control the weather and think we wish harm upon the people we serve. Anti-government sentiment is at an all time high these days. And that is fucking horrifying...

Not only for the safety of our workers, but for the public too.

US will stop tracking the costs of extreme weather fueled by climate change The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said it will no longer track the cost of weather disasters, including floods, heat waves, wildfires and more.

Ignoring the problem will not make it go away. This is a common fallacy that the current regime 100% believes in. If we don't keep track of all the billion dollar weather disasters, they'll just stop right?

No. This does hurt research that goes into climate science though. And that is terrifying.

Effective May 5, 2025, NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) will decommission its snow and ice data products from the Coasts, Oceans, and Geophysics Science Division (COGS). As a result, the level of services for affected products below will be reduced to Basicβ€”meaning they will remain accessible but may not be actively maintained, updated, or fully supported. This includes Sea Ice Index, Snow Data Assimilation System (SNODAS) Data Products, Glacier Photograph Collection, U.S. National Ice Center Arctic Sea Ice Charts and Climatologies in Gridded Format Gridded Monthly Sea Ice Extent and Concentration, 1850 Onward World Glacier Inventory. If you rely on these products in your work, research, education, or planning, we invite you to share your story at nsidc@nsidc.org. Your input can help us demonstrate the importance of these data sets and advocate for future support.

This is horrible. I don't even know what to say. Some of our most key polar data.

Why I stay? Because I want to keep people informed about weather information through our PUBLICALLY funded services. Our work isn't focused on a profit motive, it's focused on keeping everyone safe from hazardous weather. We will not bend the knee so long as I am here. #WhyWeStay
